Hard but rewarding. Rain and mist and cloud and sun greeted us on this trail. Recommend hiking boots for this one.
Don't take this lightly. After an easy walk to the cascade it changes dramatically. Was wet when we did it and was a lot of mud and slippery roots. zLakr was mystical with the clouds giving way to glorilus views then closing in again
That is definitely NOT a moderate! Very difficult terrain, sometimes very easy to get lost if you overlook a sign. Even at official doc.govt.nz website is stated that you need good fitness and high level skills and experience incl. navigation and survival skills. So be aware of that.
Was a beautiful hike, got off the path a bit into a non path that was a bit treacherous so just pay attention to the orange triangles and you’ll be fine. Lovely hike got to the top in 1:20
No words for how beautiful and peaceful the lake is. The whole trail is very beautiful and very green. It rained a little in our way up so it was very slippery and muddy pretty much the whole time, but so worth it. Loved it!
The peaceful views of the lake at the end make everything worth it! Fairly steep uphill trek on slippery wet rocks until you get to the lake, then back down those same slippery wet rocks. Take your time and watch your footing and you’ll be fine! There are a lot of side trails that weave in and out of the main one, they all lead to the same place and offer more scenery than sticking to the same trail each way.
Great track.
BUT it is no where near Glenorchy.
You drive 1 hour from Te Anau to the lower Hollyford Road where you find the start of this trail. The first 10 mins are gentle under foot and easy for most folks to enjoy. The remainder of the track is rough, steep and tricky in a few places. It makes for a good walk though. Beautiful scenery along the way.
Great hike, worth everything once you get to the serenity and beauty of the lake.
Awesome trail in the middle of fjordland National Park. The peace at lake Marian is awesome!
Great hike with an amazing view at the lake. It’s basically a climb the whole way until the last 5-10 minutes when you descend into the lake.
A very nice easy hike through a pretty forest to this serene and beautiful alpine lake. Do not expect any views until you get to the lake :). Walking by the roaring waters of The Gantry is impressive, but it’s not a water fall as some descriptions suggest. Enjoy!
Love this hike a true kiwi trail
This moderate to difficult track was slippery with uneven terrain. The ascent was relatively gradual though. View of Lake Marian at the top was worth the effort. Absolutely stunning glacial lake. Took us 3 hours RT with time for pictures at the top.
