Nice mellow hike! Got to the parking lot at 10am and while there weren't many spaces left in the parking lot, I didn't run into many parties on the trail. Spent a lot of time at the top (1.5hrs, walked the loop twice, had lunch, took photos, etc) and by the time I came down (12:30) I encountered many other hikers. Would recommend going early. Trail was nicely maintained and I was able to hike in Chacos just fine on a dry day.

Beautiful walk. Took an hour up a gradual (but shaded) incline to reach Key Summit, was a little tiring, but once you’re close to the top the incredible alpine views start. Spent an hour at the top going to the lookout and around the nature walk which is mostly flat but rocky. Then an easy walk back down, about 40 minutes.

very easy walk with a stunning view at the summit

Brisk 5 miles and 1300’. Crowded and parking lot can be problematic - consider starting in the afternoon to beat the crowds. Gorgeous 360 degree views on top. Mostly easy footing, a few rocky steps.

Great views from Key Ridge of the entire valley. The trail is easy to moderate, well-trafficked, mainly gravel, and navigable in most weather conditions. Can be completed in 1.5-2 hours at a brisk pace.

High trafficked trail but great views and an easy hike. Parts are steep and uphill but nothing crazy.

Quite busy, but when you reach Key Summit go a little further (of the trail) and you will be alone and will have breathtaking views. Absolute must see!

Good solid hike, about 2.5 hours roundtrip. We hiked into clouds at about 650 meters that day, snow blowing sideways but still fun. Moody vistas at top even with clouds blowing through.

Amazing trail. Starts off with waterfalls and rainforest conditions, and then opens at the top to 360 views of all the surrounding mountains. On a clear day it is a must do en route to Milford.

conditions changed from clear to fog to rain to snow in about 30 minutes, and we turned back before reaching the summit. looking forward to another attempt in the future.

Well maintained track with awesome views at the summit. However, the tranquility was spoiled by the number of people on this trail. Would not recommend this hike for those looking for solitude and peacefulness. So glad that I took lots of pictures, because I will not do this trail again.

Awesome hike but it was pretty cold when we went. Others are pretty accurate in saying it’s a 1.5 hours slow climb but the incline is gradual enough to say it’s an easy climb up. If you go up during colder seasons like we did (we got there at first light at -1 degrees Celsius) make sure to wear wind resistant or thick clothing as the wind pierces pretty easily and some of the paths were very iced over after all the rain.

Nice relaxed hike. First part is in the forest and then its opened and no shade. About 1.5hrs max one way in slow pace. If you know a well kept secret this hike can continue from Marian lake viewpoint for another 2kms to a stunning viewpoint...

Great view at the summit. But the hiking up is a bit tedious.

This is a beautiful hike, taking you through mossy green rainforest reminiscent of the PNW, up through prairies and mountain top pools/ lakes. Crazy how the foliage changes on the way up. We unfortunately had clouds at the top and didn't get to see the views, but the fog brings everything in and makes you appreciate the immediate surroundings. If you're questioning the difficulty, I would consider it easy-medium. Very well groomed, bathrooms on the trail, did it in slip on shoes. It is mostly up hill, but definitely not hazardous.

I would describe this as a moderate hike if you take your time. Good, even surface, well defined trail. Quite exposed as you climb up to, and on, Key Summit but deep in a beech forest for the rest. Was a damp and misty day but certainty rewarding views along the way with a comfortable track beneath our boots. A popular trail this one with a huge carpark at the Divide. We added on hour or so by going down to Lake Howden for lunch.

Favorite great walj in New Zealand. We went from divide to Routeburn Shelter. From Lake Mackenzie to Routeburn Falls was absolutely stunning. Fantastic views all day long. Took in both the Key Summit and the Conical both worth the effort. Last day out to Routeburn Flats was fairly easy but less scenic

moderate steady climb with fantastic views and a spectacular alpine pool. a lot of BANG for your effort.

Light and easy track. Beautiful wood with shade. Suit for family. All signs are clear. But it will be cold in summer raining day. Even it was raining day, the track is not very muddy. I reached to Lake Marian look out, but no view could look out because all covered by cloud or fog. So sad....

The walk is mostly shaded till closer to the summit. The 360 view at the nature walk loop is quite amazing. It’s a pleasant walk, took us two hours in total including return.

We got lucky with the weather and had great views. Really chill trek - lovely thing to do on the way back from Milford sound and lovely guided nature walk at the top.

I hiked this trek on a cloudy, rainy day in late-January. The Milford Sound area had seen only one sunny day in two months, so I wasn't alone in my wet experience. The path is mostly a steady ascent of switchbacks amongst lush green, with a couple waterfalls near the base, and ending at a guided nature walk. There's a sign at the summit with a photo of the surrounding view, which gave me a glimpse at what I could have been seeing behind the clouds. Looks amazing; wish I could have seen it live! Nice trek, but do know that you'll be disappointed in a (lack of) vista reward if the weather isn't in your favor.
