Highly recommend taking the east track to Rocky Mountain on the way up and the west track on the way down. Wear waterproof hiking boots because in places it’s super muddy and wet. All in all, the hike was beautiful and not heavily traveled if you choose to go up to Rocky Mountain.

Awesome viewpoint. A lot of mud, it is better to have good hiking boots.

Totally good track but I think it's more difficult than moderate during this winter time because of muddy and icey road, sometimes you need to use hands and feet together.

Sentier bien sympa et pas très difficile avec vue formidable au sommet sur le glacier et le lac. Bonne rando de récupération après le roys ou l' isthmus Peak.

We only did this hike to the Lake Wanaka lookout because of limited time and it was an easy hike, under 2 hours. A bit of climb after you pass the Diamond Lake. Beautiful view at the top, good alternative to the harder hikes in the area if you can't do those. Could get pretty busy though so better go early.

This trail was more difficult than I thought it would be. We hiked the loop clockwise and judging from the return tract down from the peak, I think we made a good decision. Going clockwise up to the peak involved steep climbs. Overall, a nice and diversified hike.

Beautiful hike, better than expected! Some steep inclines and narrow pathways but nothing to worry about. Take the eastern route for the best views

This trail had everything. It starts with a lot of stairs. But, after that, there’s not a lot of let up. It was a challenge, uneven terrain, gaining elevation, winding through forests. Good hiking shoes/boots recommended, definitely water, maybe some snacks if you plan to make it to the top. And you should definitely plan to make it to the top. Words fail, photos can’t do justice, it’s simply put, beautiful. I went up the east track, which was more wooded and shady, and came down the west track, which was more exposed and with many more drop offs. The sand flys at the top we’re bothersome but not terrible. Basically, what I’m saying is, get to the top, have a sit, and take it in. It’s incredible.

Incredible hike. Amazing views. Recommend doing a full figure 8 up and down. The views from the top overlooking Lake Wanaka were incredible. Not terribly difficult, even with the HOWLING winds near the top.

An amazing route with fantastic views ! We took the eastern route and think that it is much nicer: Your views arrive gradually, better and better with each viewpoint you reach. If you take the western route up - you get the full view at the top, then descend gradually. Go up the full trail to Rocky Mountain, the view is great.

Personally I found Roys Peak easier.. Distance - Easy. Physical - Moderate. There were a few steep and slippery sections where at 5ft2 I had to scramble/climb and even come down on my butt. There are also quite a few stairs/steps. Mental - Hard. This was the hard part for me. Some sections of path are single file, so passing can be tricky. Some sections have big drops and my acrophobia got the better of me. I actually froze on a couple of occasions. This aggravated my vertigo. But all in all the views are stunning and worth the mental challenge. To be fair, I'd say 95% of people wouldn't have any issues, but please bear my comments in mind if heights/drops are an issue for you.

Varied terrain, a few steep and slippery sections but well worth it for the beautiful hike. Multiple view points over Lake Wanaka and a 360 view at the top. Highly recommend!

Nice loop track. Loop direction - not important. I used clockwise direction. More - see my short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0pXN1uDlv4

Great track, take the Western side up for a bit more challenging and rewarding path. Then you could make a figure eight to do the whole track.
