Nice hike with limited elevation gain, especially if doing the upper loop (entrance right by parking lot). We completed it with our four year-old in almost exactly two hours.

A great waterfall walk that can easily be done under 2 hours! Start your walk on the entrance to the left, just before the car park

We completed this walk in the winter. we found its rating of moderate accurate. There is a fair bit of step work, but you're rewarded with tranquil views of a water fall and a break taking kiwi landscape. Not suitable for children aged 11 or under.

Did this hike in winter (July 6) and it was pretty great! Small dusting of snow brings out some interesting scenery. Started with the lower trail and then did the upper on the way back. Brings you through some lush green mossy scenery and then projects you out into the more open rock face with great views of the big snow capped mountains.

Beautiful short hike to a waterfall with beautiful backdrop of volcanoes. What more can you ask for. Easy hike to do in a short period of time.

Amazing views we did the upper section of walk first which I highly recommend then you get to go down stairs instead of walking up well looked after track we did this walk in the rain as we were unable to do the tongario crossing the photo taken is on this walk with mount Ngauruhoe in background very child friendly too

Easy to moderate hike with beautiful scenery all around. The falls are breathtaking and the view of Mt Ngauruhoe from the lower portion is incredible

An absolute highlight, either clockwise or anti clockwise. Probably prefer clockwise as the views are a little better. Better yet, go one way, have lunch at the Tongariro Chateau, then go the other!

Very easy and nice hike! We took the upper loop, so not much going up in this direction. Very beautiful waterfall!

Did this hike in the rain. If you go counterclockwise, you’ll go down a steep series of steps to get to the bottom of the waterfall. Clockwise you’ll have to go up. Depends on your knees. The waterfall is at about the 11 o’clock position from the start. So if you are planning on going on to hike further than the loop, going clockwise will let you see the waterfall early in the trip. Except for the steep set of stairs, the hike was mostly gradual changes in elevation. Enjoyed this hike.

Did this on a cloudy day and was still treated to a wonderful walk, not too difficult. Take the high beginning or you will be turning around to see the mountain. Bring water and a snack or two.

Very nice loop with kids. Loved the vegetation changes from forest to grasslands along the way. Can get a bit crowded if the weather sends folks away from the Tongariro crossing, we ran into about 10 people at the falls themselves. I think if you start with the upper loop, you can get nice views of Mts Tongariro and Ngauruhoe without having to turn around.

Great hike in nice trail. Lots of vegetation changes in short distance - tundra to forested. Start with lower loop as it is more strenuous, upper loop return is mostly gentle downward slope.
