This trails offers spectacular views of Aoraki Mount Cook and the surrounding valley and mountain ranges. The beginning of the trail is about an hour of stair climbing.

Starting from the campground it’s pretty much a vertical climb up a very well maintained staircase through lush vegetation and into alpine tundra. A challenging climb, but worth it for the phenomenal views of Mt Cook, Hooker Lake, glaciers, and the valley. Beautiful reflections on the tarns on a still day!

From carpark to where stairs begin is super icy, and from there (90% stairs) it’s also super icy. We had to stop about 10min from top because it was just all ice. Bring pickaxes. Otherwise, INCREDIBLE views of Mount Cook (covered in glorious snow) and surrounding ranges and valley. Highly recommend.

Beautiful hike with amazing views! Basically an hour straight of stairs. A solid hike as Hooker Valley was closed at the first bridge and we didn’t have time to do the whole Mueller Hut track.

Amazing views at the hut and beyond! It is a pretty tough hike though with a lot of stairs at first and then a hard to find trail with a scramble. Completely worth it at the top though.

We were wanting to hike all the way to the Mueller Hut but gusts of 100km/h winds forced us to stop at Sealy Tarns. Still beautiful views from here. Be warned it is pure stairs.

About an hour straight of stairs but a great workout and amazing views throughout, then the start of the Mueller Hut scramble begins.

The stairs were brutal but the view was worth it. Did it back in February!

Do you love stairs? Great views. Lots of stairs. Picnic table at the lookout. Last 200 steps were snow covered so a good walking stick will serve you well in June.
