Please note that many trails in the area are closed to protect kauri trees. This trail currently remains open, but the status may change. For the most up-to-date information on trail closures, please see linked list below. https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/environment/plants-animals/pests-weeds/Pages/protect-our-kauri-trees.aspx Exhibition Drive is an easy level bush walk with occasional scenic views of the surrounding bush and Manukau Harbour. Interpretation along the walk tells the story of this historic area. After about 3km, you will reach Mackies Rest, a favored rest stop of Mackie who was a trader that used to deliver supplies such as saddles to workers in the area over 100 years ago. Check out the view, and you can see why he like to stop here! Carry onto the Beveridge Track, the newest track in the Waitakere Regional Park network. This track is named for the Beveridge family and especially honors Bill Beveridge, who was Chief Ranger for the Waitakere Ranges from 1970-1990.  This track continues all the way to the Arataki Visitor Centre, with a short stop near the end for a lookout over both the Manukau and Waitemata harbours. There is a short steep portion of track up to this look out.  Carry on to the Arataki Visitor Centre for toilets, water and friendly staff to answer any questions you have about the Waitakere Regional Park.

Easy, flat track until nearing the Arataki centre where there is a short steep section. Had more people than expected but not enough where it feels invasive. One part of the track is closed (it was a detour/alternative route) but the route recorded on this app is all currently open. Lots of bush and some nice views. Lots of tuis! We were also surprised with a stick insect in the middle of the walkway!

I did this trail in the afternoon following a rainy morning. The trail is very well maintained and mostly gravel so it wasn't muddy. 90% flat.
