Lovely little track with lots of stairs. The track is mostly covered and in great condition. Please, please, please use the trigene spray and brushes to clean your shoes - it does make a difference. Please check here for updates: https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/environment/plants-animals/pests-weeds/protect-our-kauri-trees/Pages/track-closures-hunua-ranges.aspx

Nice walk through the tropical bush

Great trail. Started left side of the track - a lot of incline for at least 60 percent of the run. 400 elevation in total for one loop. Strava tracked me doing 11km full loop

Lovely little track with lots of stairs. We went anticlockwise and were grateful for our choice since we were able to enjoy most of the views nearer to the end of the hike. The track is mostly covered and in great condition. Please, please, please use the trigene spray and brushes to clean your shoes - it does make a difference. We brought a packed lunch and shared this at the lookout over the gorge (would highly recommend).

Tracks now reopened... I went anti clockwise which seems the harder of the two options, just turn right at the junction to do so. Track goes uphill at first then tapers out towards the reservoir side, then goes to a fun little section through the cossey gorge and then to a small rock hopping river crossing(not very hard) Good trail for running aswell as walking.

A good, defined trail. This trail has been open since the new year (2020). I did this counter clock wise and I think either way you do it you’ll run into a bunch of stairs. I counted one fallen tree crossing the path but pretty dry overall. There is a small stream crossing. The trail is mostly shaded and if you include the Hunua Falls it’s a great way to end the trek.

A very nice and beautiful trail, moderate maintained to keep it clean and in a great natural condition but still not overdone. We enjoyed it all the way.

really good walk as the other reviews say either solo or with others.

I love this hike, great to do solo or with others. Agree with other comments that the stairs leading down to the creek are a trip hazard, and be careful on the stream crossing as the rocks are very slippery and I fell and broke my wrist there. Also, don't be a douche and please USE THE SPRAY STATIONS

This is one of the most popular hikes in Hunua Ranges Regional Park, where the main focus is on the forest and the kauri trees. The latter require protection from fungal infection, so there are footwear cleaning stations before and after you enter the trail (https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parks-recreation/Pages/park-details.aspx?Location=213). The trail starts and ends at the same carpark as the location of Hanua Falls, which is a bonus. I thought this would be a good place to escape the crowds, as this is billed as an underappreciated attraction in the Auckland area. There were plenty of folks there on this Sunday, including Auckland Council representatives to monitor the shoe cleaning, but it's a mellow scene. This hike is about being in the forest, and although you climbing quite a bit, often on steps, it is not really about the views. It was off and on raining today, which I think is part of the deal here. I went around the loop in the clockwise direction, but got the sense that everyone else was going counterclockwise. You will get to the high-point of the trail in 2 miles if you go that way.

Excellent walk. Very enjoyable under the trees and love the trees and nature. Info says 3 hours but with a good pace you can do it in 2

good track. nice and cool under the trees. great lookout spot just before the resovior and lots of space to stop and have lunch at the resovior. only thing I don't like is the steps leading down to the creek need a bit of maintenance as they are a tripping hazard and I wish they would build a bridge at the creek because the rocks are slippery.

Good trail....but at the top of both trails it should be more clear as to the length of time to finish the route. It's a long trail for anyone 10 and under.
