Dunes stroll. A varied walk through the woods and dunes. The route starts at the Haringvlietdam with its 18 locks, which can be closed completely during high tide. At the moment there is still discussion about whether or not to open those locks. Until now they have mainly been closed, so that the Haringvliet is sweetened. With all consequences for water management. Much of the Brabant agricultural poison is flushed out here via the Hollands Diep. After much discussion, the locks would come ajar. That has been postponed to 2010 (well why would you make 18 locks to keep the salt .....) The Voornse dune is a very special young nature reserve. There is no water extraction site and that means a wet area, so that many plants and animal species can exist here. The South Holland landscape has plotted many walks in this protected nature reserve. To the south of Rockanje most paths run to and from the sea, so it is wise to walk along the beach. North of Rockanje are many beautiful nature trails and from which a choice has been made to get to Oostvoorne within a decent distance. Both seaside towns are not spectacular, for that you have to go a little further to den Briel with its rich history and fully preserved fortifications. In Oostvoorne you will find a ruined estate (Mildenburg) with old tree lanes. And you will find the old castle ruins (motte from the 12th century) on an artificial hill with a moat.
