The Dwingelderveld is an extensive heathland in the old Drenthe village landscape. The area is home to vast, moist heathlands, peat bogs, acid and weakly buffered fens, old oak forests, a small bog, dry heath, drifting sands and juniper berries. There are prehistoric burial mounds in the area. The Dwingeloo Forestry consists of forests that were planted in the early 20th century on drifting sand and heathland. In the woods there are various ponds and moors. The Lheebroekerzand is a very varied drifting sand area with forest, heath and juniper wheat flour. The Anserdennen is a hilly part where mixed forest, heath and fens are found on former drifting sands.
