We did this part of the adventure in October 2018 - as part of a larger loop taking chola pass to reach Everest Base Camp and back. I still feel the experience at Gokyo Ri was way more rewarding compared to anything I have experienced ever I was totally out of breath - stopping at every excuse possible... it’s too beautiful to describe I would suggest getting good guide - even though backpacking by yourself is possible. The trails will have hikers and animals going up and down all the time.... marked quite well as well. Having a guide and Sherpa takes the logistics part away from our mind. It’s possible that in high seasons the area houses will get full. Want to do this again in May - as soon as I can get some time

We trekked to Gokyo Ri as part of a 16-day trek through the Khumbu Region of Nepal. It was absolutely fantastic, and one of the hardest hikes I've ever been on. About halfway through the 800 meter climb I hit the wall. Frozen fingers and toes had me ready to pack it in. After dropping my gear and sitting for a while, the sun climbed over the peaks, warming me up. A quick RX Bar, and a few gulps of water had me up and moving. I am happy to say that taking 50 steps at a time I made it to the top of Gokyo Ri. The views were worth the effort, and I avoided my first ever bailout on a hike.

Unfortunately my view of gokyo lake 3 was frozen. However the adventure leaving at 4am to chase the sunrise up on gokyo ri was an experience! Again not for the light hearted Trekkers.

We used this trail as the final portion of a loop trip from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, over Chola Pass to Gokyo and then down this trail back to Lukla. So for us it was a downhill trek. Spectacular views of mountain on mountain!

Beautiful in the off season. Winter brings cold nights and splendid skies. Is is a straight-forward trail without technicalities. Views of the Ngozumpa glacier are formidable.
