On this loop trail you will touch several interesting places: The dam (Presa de la Olla), the lighthouse (El Faro), the hill of the Comadres (Cerro de las Comadres), La Bufa mountain (Cerro de la Bufa) and El Paseo de la Presa Ave. You start at the pier of the dam (21.00180, -101.23906), and just crossing the street you will find the entrance to the trail. The first mile is the steepest section of the trail, on this part you are going to get to El Faro, lighthouse that still works, where you can stop and contemplate the city. Then you continue walking up for a little more time until you reach el Cerro de las Comadres, the highest point of the trail, from this place of beautiful big rocks, you will have a wonderful 360 degrees view. Once you enjoy the nice landscape and rest a little, you start walking down towards El Cerro de la Bufa. During the rainy season, you will see some little arroyos, beautiful plants and flowers. El Cerro de la Bufa is a beautiful mountain of big rocks where you also can rappel and climb, in front is a cave where they used to have religious festivities, now these festivities are done in another cave at the bottom of the mountain. The trail, last steeper section, continues in the canyon between the big cave and the mountain, be careful because you are going to walk on rocks. Then you will arrive at a well maintained trail, turn to your right and continue until the intersection with a paved road named Panoramica, this point is about 3.8 miles from where you started. You can walk on a trail that goes along the side of the Panoramica road for about half a mile, then walk down and reach El Paseo de la Presa Ave and turn to your right until you arrive to the place where you started. At the intersection with the Panoramica road you decide if you take a taxi or walk by El Paseo de la Presa Ave where you will see several beautiful buildings, old Spaniard houses, and also pass by a nice park. Although two sections are a bit difficult, you will enjoy a lot this trail, but you are going to need a good pair of hiking boots and preferably a hiking stick.

Contemplate the city of Guanajuato in Mexico from the mountains that surround it, was a great experience for me. This time I wanted to hike and a guide accompanied me to visit the beautiful area named Los Picachos. Once I arrived to el Cerro de las Comadres, an area with beautiful rocks, I enjoyed a lot the views of the fascinating landscape in all directions. But being in front of the rocks and the cave at el Cerro de la Bufa, and also contemplate the city from there, take your breath away. Walking by the Paseo de la Presa Ave, on the park and near the dam, were also a very pleasant moments. Definitely this was a great trail.
