There's a small parking lot 300 meters west of the location of the Hayamarinkan Camping Site. The trailhead on google maps is incorrect but the actual trailhead is marked with a large sign.

Quite steep at times, this was a difficult hike. The majority of the rise comes in the first few km of the hike. Follows the ridgeline most of the way up so there are great views on both sides. There are a few alpine marshes and the first half of the trail is decently maintained. Once you reach the split to go back down or continue to Hayama Shrine the trail narrows and there's a fair amount of brush. Def recommend long sleeves. Requires some scrambling and there are a number of places with narrow footing and drop offs. Some areas with ropes to help climb up rocks. The top half has a great view of the mountain spine leading to the Shrine in the distance. A fair number of dragonflys and flys but none that bothered me, saw a few snakes as well. Took just under 5 hours, 2.5 up, short break at top and 2.25 down.
