There is a camping site in Hinata (end of the route), a great getaway from the busy Oyama route. You can find several temples and other historical sites in Hinata as well. Trail is possible to walk in either direction...

Mt Oyama is a great starter mountain for hikers in Japan. You’ll definitely break a sweat but still not fear for your life. The first section we took the otoko (man) route up to the midway shrine. Near there, there is a shop that has delicious pumpkin flavoured dango and tofu ice cream. From the shrine it’s about 90 minutes to the top. There is some bouldering, but not a big challenge. At the top, we saw some some deer close up. There were many people at the summit and a nice view of Tokyo bay and Oshima island. Overall, a great day hike.

A tough climb especially if you decide to ascend via the Onna-zaki Trail .. steep and lots of rocks to climb over .. I’m a beginner so perhaps a little tougher for me .. once you’re near the top, you get one amazing view of Fuji-san and this being Winter, meant that it was a very clear day. Many shrines and temples to see along the way so made for an enjoyable 3 hours .. recommended

Oyama Afuri Shrine It was very hot today. I was really sweaty. I had a break time so there was the cafe in this shrine. You can reach the mountain top by cable car and can see the city view.

Nice trail - very beautiful in fall. Several groves of evergreen cedars on the way up and small waterfalls greet you on the way up on the west side. On the way down on the east side - groves of deciduous trees prior to reaching the evergreens. View from the top was good from the back side if you like mountains (Fuji) and not cities. Having said that the terrain is steep with many irregular stairs made of rock, stones, and logs. Not for the weak knee individuals. There is a team that will get you half way but I didn’t take it.

Great hike! Shaded most of the way- lots of steps!. Did not expect the nice temples along the way and waterfall near the end. View ok from top due to smog layer but better at Maishai... point near the end. I recommend this hike

Walk it clockwise (like recommended here) - otherwise you’re against the masses which is not fun at some narrow parts. Very tourist/ non-Japanese friendly (english speaking tourist info/ maps at isehara station and on the loop everything in romaji/ English) Very easy accessible from Tokyo by odakyu line from shinjuku. Decent hike though very crowded, many families with small children and views are so so if sight is not perfect.

A lot of staircases, but all the time in the forest.
