No different from all the other trails on the southside of Nobscot Hill, this one just wasn't in the Alltrails database. Now it is.

Challenging hike! Me (51) and my son (18) got up in 6.5 hours and back down in 3 hours. The trail starts out very smooth - almost a road - but soon becomes a narrow, rooty and rocky and steep scramble. Very narrow ridge lines in a few places, with steep drops on either side. Sometimes there's a rope, sometimes not. A few places there is strong hydrogen sulfide smell (rotten eggs), especially along one very muddy section of trail where sulfurous water is seeping out. Not surprising as Iwate is a volcano! But also not pleasant... But the view from the top is worth it! Very glad to have hiked it. It can be done in one long day, but it's correctly rated Hard!

Did an overnight hike on this trail. It took 6 hours to the top and stayed in one of the mountain huts. The hut was beautiful and very clean. The trail is muddy in spots and has loose rocks in many spots. It is truly an amazing trail with beautiful views. The hike down only took me 3 hours. I would not recommend doing this trail all in one day or hiking alone.
