The Tre Cime di Lavaredo (English: Three Peaks of Lavaredo; German: Drei Zinnen) are three distinctly rocky peaks that tower into the sky in the Sexten Dolomites of Italy. This mountain group is widely known and so the best time to visit is during the off season, either in the fall when the region calms down after a busy summer, or in spring/early summer when wildflowers are in bloom and the crowds of eager hikers have not yet arrived. The iconic jagged peaks are composed of layered limestone. The surrounding area features high alpine meadows, sweeping landscapes, dotted lakes, and well-marked pathways. In east to west order, the peak names are: Cima Piccola (English: Little Peak; German: Kleine Zinne) Cima Grande (English: Big Peak; German: Große Zinne) Cima Ovest (English: Western Peak; German: Westliche Zinne). This route begins at Rifugio Auronzo and heads north to Rifugio Lavaredo and finally Rifugio Locatelli, circling back around and forming a loop that passes Col Forcellina on the way back. You can drive a car there (with a fee to park) or catch a bus from nearby Cortina d’Ampezzo or Dobbiaco. Don’t forget water, but also know you can stop for a drink or a bite to eat at any of the rifugios along the way.

Moderately easy hiking trail with joy too many steep inclines. This time of year (October), all the refugios are closed for the winter, so make sure to carry your own food and water. Entrance to the park is 30 Euro and the parking lot fills fast. I started at 0730 and there were maybe 12-15 cars. Back at the parking lot 4 hours later and it was well over 100 cars.

Very good trail. Very flat to start, then some pitches to get the blood flowing. Lots of kids and dogs. Plenty of leaves changing down in the valleys, and bits of snow on the peaks. Incredible views, of course.

30 euro to enter the park. We started late, 0930, and it was getting very busy. Great part of this trail is there are options to make it more challenging. Took the middle trail after the first ascent. Some tricky spots that make it a higher moderate challenge. If you stay on the trail it’s fairly easy. Overall, the views are spectacular but the trail is somewhat mundane.

So beautiful and so popular. The food was great at Refugio Locatelli and super view of Tre Cime. Despite the crowds a must do.

Very cool trail with some amazing views. I was dogged in most of the day but the sneak peak views I got were awesome.

Amazing hike and beautiful views. I took my 72 year old mom and she managed to complete the loop. We stopped at Localetti for a quick lunch and then proceed back on the trail. If you have time to do one hike in Dolomites, I totally recommend this hike.

Trail was appropriately moderate with 3 Rifugios for plenty of rest. This trail is accessible by bus from Cortina and can be completed between 2.5-3.5 hours depending on your experience level and number of breaks. A few areas were narrow/scary for my significant other who is a beginner hiker but she was able to push through it. This is definitely one of the busiest trails but the loop around Tre Cime allows for unobstructed photos, I would just be cognizant of letting others pass.

Great hike connecting in a loop between four Rifugios (each of which has great facilities! But only the first takes credit cards - bring cash). Although not technically challenging, and not dangerous, it is worth knowing that there are a couple of points where you will want to exercise caution due to the volume of people where the trail narrows. You’ll want to leave EARLY to avoid disappointment as the toll road (toll is 30EUR in Aug 2019) on the way in closes once the parking at the starting Rifugio is deemed full.

This hike was absolutely beautiful the whole time but as a new hiker (in good physical shape) there were parts that were scary at times - a few steep switchback climbs and many parts of the trail had huge drop offs. The drop offs scared me but didn't seem to bother most of the other hikers

Amazing. Views all around the hike. Literally could spend days in one area. We went on a cloudy /rainy day and it gave it a dramatic look. Looks like something from Lord of the Rings. Feel free to go off trail and explore a bit. It’s so big!

I love the Tre Cime.... you just have to start really early because it is the most trafficked trail in the area..... everyone stars walking towards the east, we did the opposite abd went all around it, in 4 hours more or less..... stopping at the teo rifugios for snack and lunch.

I added on the climb up to Sasso Di Sesto for a better view of Tre Cime, which added about 45 minutes to the hike but it was really worth it. There were dogs everywhere, so very dog friendly.
