Viste incredibili e escursione divertente e dinamica.

Hiking

Just read the review Rachel Sharp posted. It’s a perfect summary of this hike. To the first lake is easy, to the second lake is more difficult to reach. Also, almost no snow on our hike.

Hiking

Amazing views and fun, dynamic hike. There are multiple routes to get up and back to the second lake (Pietra Rossa), so you can see different things. One of the routes, which draws you to the left at a fork before crossing the waterfall, follows the waterfall up the mountain with metal bars at several points to help with the fairly vertical climb (or descent). This route was steeper, but much less snowy than the route that crosses the waterfall before the lake. The snow made the ascent difficult in two patches—we even used some other hikers ropes to help us get up. (Probably not absolutely necessary but definitely helpful.) The portion of the hike between Arpy and Pietra Rossa has some rock scrambles and was quite steep for most of the way. The two parts of the hike should really be rated separately. From the car park to Arpy was fairly easy, but the hike from Arpy to Pietra Rossa was difficult. (The overall hike is rated as moderate right now, but I’m sure a U.S. National Park would rate the second leg of the hike as difficult.) The views are incredible the whole way and I would do this hike again— but know that the mileage is probably between 9-10 miles round trip and the hike from Arpy to Pietra Rossa is challenging.

Hiking

Great hike to the first lake with awesome views of the Alps. If you just hike to the first lake & back it's around 6 km round trip.

First to Review

Shortly: a great trip that I strongly suggest to everybody - at least until the Lago d'Arpy, 45 minutes and few gradient meters away from the starting point. Lago d'Arpy is literally a jewel - at the bottom of a large valley, surrounded by pines and other vegetation dressing its fall colors. From Lago d'Arpy you can start to have a glance on the Mont Blanc massif - and in particular the Grandes Jorasses. Starting from the Lake, the trail number 19 drives you towards the Lago Pietra Rossa along a nice path - progressively steep and made easy with rocks placed as stairs. After 1 hour and a half, you finally reach the Lago Pietra Rossa - in the middle of a breath-taking scenario with a wonderful view on the entire Mont Blanc massif. Some snow that fell in the passed days required some extra attention along the way.  It was a bit late - with more time there are some interesting peaks to be climbed around Lago Pietra Rossa - such as Becca Pougnenta and Mont Cormet.
