The Israel National Trail on Bicycle is a project still in construction. Eventually it will connect Mt. Hermon in the north with the Red Sea in the south. It is built and designated for cyclers of high standard, offering arranged accommodation at the end of each day. One of the sections already complete and open to the public is the part following the Ancient Incense Road between Mitzpe Ramon and Beerot campground. Beerot campground is an official complex at the heart of the Ramon crater, offering paid common sleep in big tents as well as little private rooms and placements for one´s own tent. The ride begins at Mitzpe Ramon, right on the crater´s rim, and goes down and into the crater from there. It comprises a few trails that together make it an extremely joyful and fun. It isn´t all that long, but there are barely any shortcuts, so it is rated ¨medium¨, meaning a medium level of fitness is required if you want to traverse it. Riding in the desert is a very unique experience, foreign to most of the cyclists. Even if you are well travelled you will find it hard to stay indifferent to the desert´s charm and diversity, following the footsteps of old caravans with your proper two wheels. When riding, remember to wear a helmet and have the proper equipment necessary. Don´t forget to bring a sufficient amount of water, moreover in hot days.
