Some historical neighborhoods: Jaffa port, the American - German colony, Neve Tzedek and the old railway station Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city, was officially founded in 1909. A group of 66 families settled in the sand dunes north of Jaffa with the goal of building "a Hebrew urban centre in a healthy environment". This land north of Jaffa, now the heart of Tel Aviv, was not totally empty before 1909: the Templar Colony, the Jewish neighborhood Neve Tzedek, the railway station and even Trumpeldor cemetery were all here before Tel Aviv. This walk will take you to some of the pre-Tel Aviv sites - all restored and recently developed as cultural and entertainment areas. We start in Jaffa port for two reasons, first is to get some idea where it all started from, and it is a very pleasant walk.
