A beautiful loop trail that covers road, scramble and boardwalk walking. The views are absolutely spectacular, but quick changes in the weather are a stern reminder that things can get nasty fast for those unprepared. Good hiking boots and rain gear are a must. The trail itself is excellently maintained and well signposted. For those looking to shave a few minutes off the route, you could easily park at the upper car park rather than the visitor centre and cut out the monastic ruins and some flat boardwalk.

A beautiful three hour loop trail that covers road, scramble and boardwalk walking. I headed off early and followed the trail as described above going counter clockwise around the lake. This meant a tough climb up the waterfall at the miners village, but I largely had the place to myself for the first two hours. The views are absolutely spectacular, but quick changes in the weather are a stern reminder that things can get nasty fast for those unprepared. Good hiking boots and rain gear are a must. The trail itself is excellently maintained and well signposted. Don't get too hung up on trail blazes while around the busier areas. I got turned around a few times trying to follow side paths and shortcuts that intertwine around the monastic settlement and the information centre. Keep it simple...Either walk around the upper lake, or head up to the waterfall. After that the trail will become much more apparent as the smaller trails and crowds fall away. The boardwalk sleepers have been replaced around the Spink (January 2020) and the route is a good mix of cruisey trails and tough climbs; very slippy and boggy in places. For those looking to shave a few minutes off the route, you could easily park at the upper car park rather than the visitor centre and cut out the monastic ruins and some flat boardwalk.

What a great hike, it exceeded all expectations. I chose to turn left just after the Information Kiosk and climb the boardwalk up to the Spinc. The views from up there were well worth every drop of sweat. The rest of the hike was a gentle downhill stroll.

Very good trail. Dogs friendly. Great views from the top over the lake. Done it few times. If you are going counter clock wise second part is rocky and climb could be hard for younger hikers. Good photo opportunity.

First part through the forest, next is rocky but not that hard. When you climb on the top of the hill trail goes on it till the end - views are amazing and path really beautiful but may be little dangerous for children :)

My favourite trail worldwide so far. Even win over Yosemite to me. A great variety of landscapes and views. Caution the wind can be really strong on the mountain top.

Beautiful scenery, saw a baby deer, fabulous place, great for families. Not to be missed but kids might find some of the ascent hard after the miners’ village

I was lucky as I had a brilliant and dry day for this magnificent hike! Getting up early was worth it. Started the hike around 8am and walked it from the Miners Road which I recommend because you’ll have the best part in front, rather than behind you. I came across a few goats, stags and a lot of deer. It was beautiful! Will definitely do it again.

Brilliant hike. Ancient church ruins and graveyard, hill climb in well maintained wooded paths, high open terrain with plunging and rocky views, ruined mine works, rocky stream, pretty lakes, leafy flat woodsy stroll, and boardwalk around enclosed meadows.
