A rough trail starts Westwards from the Military Road to the SE of Carrigshouk towards forestry.  Turning North, the trail skirts the trees and then heads West along the base of hill, becoming quite rocky. Mullaghcleevaun "East Top" comes into view as the trail turns north, and then WNW, transitioning to an eroded peaty surface underfoot; there are a few deep holes in this peat (animal burrows?) to avoid in this region! Crossing through a line of old fence posts, the route leaves the main trail and heads NW up the hill. The East-West map of the area shows a trail, but you will have trouble finding more than occasional snatches of well-worn path until coming near the summit of Mullaghcleevaun East Top, so the journey through this section was a rather vague trudge through heather and broken peat. The final section to the slightly higher main summit is straightforward, although there are large swathes of exposed peat and peat hags in the saddle. The main summit offers good views of the Blessington lakes.
