Lugnaquilla is one of Ireland's Top 10 Highest Mountains. It has a vertical ascent of around 3,400 feet and is the highest peak in the Wicklow Mountain Range, which is about 80 Km south of Dublin. This is an incredibly beautiful, but somewhat difficult trail. The challenge is well worth the effort. After zig-zagging along the first part of the trail, look for a ladder to cross the sheep fence. After that, just follow the rock trail to the summit.

Very good trail. The first few kilometers are quite steep and a bit mucky in parts. All in all it is a really nice climb. Make sure once you reach the top of the zig zag you turn to the right, the trail spilts in this location and to continue on you need to follow the trail to the right.

Awesome views and great workout trek. The initial few k takes your breath away (mostly physically) it's steep at the start and steeper after 30 mins but after the first hour the ground flattens somewhat and it's a pleasure to almost stroll to the peak. It's the highest point in Leinster and it doesn't dissapoint, great viewpoint and there's always interesting people at the top on a nice day.

This is an incredibly beautiful, quite difficult but very rewarding trail! First off, it is entirely unmarked and you need a map (if even on your phone); if it's foggy or bad weather, don't attempt this. We got very lost even with a map, and while we were able to find our way to the top and eventually get back on the trail, it was a frustrating time. Parking is at the Glenmalure lodge (the only populated looking area for a while), and the you walk 2.5km along the road until a very tiny and hard to miss road sign points you to the trailhead. You'll pass someone's house and farm along the way, and then make sure you don't miss the entrance to the trail on the left of this house. After zig-zagging along the first part of the trail, it's hard to see where to go (this is where we got lost), but you'll want to look for a ladder to get across the sheep fence. After that, it's pretty straightforward- just follow the rock trail to the summit. It's pretty muddy at the bottom and very windy at the top, so wear appropriate gear. There are rolling hills and sheep galore, so beautiful! It took us about 6 hours with a lunch stop to do this whole hike, round trip.

Up and up!!! At least for 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Be aware that it can be warm at the bottom, but can have high winds at the top. I would imagine this goes up a notch with bad conditions. Even with the ideal conditions I had, there was a mud path that was okay to follow but no other markers visually! so know your compass and map essentials. What an amazing challenge with some unforgettable views!!!

Challenging going up, mainly because it’s so constant. Even after the zig zags, you’re continually moving up. Great views near the top. Cloud cover at the summit despite the weather being decent. Rewarding climb overall.

The difficulty of this trail lies in the physical effort required for the initial ascend from the valley. No climbing or other technical difficulties and the trail, while almost unmarked is very obviously visible so orientation is no problem. Sadly, both times I used this route the peak was covered in cloud so no great views available.
