Kippure via Lough Bray Lower is a 4.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Enniskerry, County Wicklow, Ireland that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips.
This walk begins by crossing a small stream near the R115 road that travels to the East of Kippure and the Lough Brays. Following a path or paths worn in the moorland, the route ascends towards high ground overlooking Lough Bray Lower and continues until near the north end of the lake. At that point it leaves the path and passes fairly directly to the Kippure summit over rather featureless moorland with little or nothing in the way of human trampling to be seen, apart from the paved road that is used to service the TV transmission towers. The views from the top are the usual nice Wicklow fare, although in this case one has to walk around the TV masts and huts to take it all in.
A white Christmas - very boggy at parts. A perfect quick hike if you’re stuck for time. Beautiful views of Wicklow, Dublin and Blessington Lakes. Would defiantly do it again!
Easy walk, no need for boots. Low lying cloud hampered our vision from the RTE mast on top.
Took a different route following paved bog road from Sally Gap. After 2km it turns to bog. There isn’t much of a path, not after heavy rain yesterday. Very wet in places. Difficult in the conditions but still worth a go if looking for a different route.
Great views 10/10 1hr25 to do Parking is limited so no valuables left in cars !!
Great hike with stunning views of the Wicklow mountains. We hiked in March after weeks of rain so the trail was boggy and waterlogged which we expected. To get onto the main road up to Kippure was interesting as we had to hop the ravine that follows the road. This is off trail but we had to get out of the bog at that point.
Lovely, easy, clear trail. icey on the day for us and possibly a bit boggy on another day. Would recommend
