Keeper Hill is the highest peak in the Shannon Region and offers majestic views of the surrounding countryside. Keeper Hill is situated in the Slieve Felim mountain range in North Tipperary and is just 15km east of Limerick City. The Gaelic name for the hill means the mountain of guarding! Keeper Hill is the highest mountain in the Shannon area and the 117th highest in Ireland. The 'hill' is wrapped in a forestry area of 3,300 hectares. The 300 hectare summit is designated as a National Heritage Area, considered important for the habitats present or species of plants and animals whose habitat needs protection. This loop overlaps with a short section of the Slieve Felim Way - a 44km way-marked route which travels from Murroe in County Limerick to Silvermines in County Tipperary. En-route it passes through the small but pleasant village of Toor and onward across the shoulder of Keeper Hill. While the loop (marked with purple arrows) explores the lower shoulders of Keeper Hill, the 'hardy' walker will enjoy incorporating the 'trek' to the summit (the red arrows).

Great day out. The path is quite stony on the red trail at least so make sure you have the proper shoes. Gorgeous views and lovely forest trail. It's a potty they are felling some of the trees there right now though.

Beautiful views at the top on a clear day.

Panoramic views from the top, with waterfalls & occasional deer to view on the way up. Straightforward to cut it to a less intense approx 9km circular loop by cutting out the final trek to the top if the gradient gets too steep (just continue past the left turn that brings you towards the summit and you'll loop back to your starting point).

Nice walk up, great views at the top. The signage could be much better getting there. Very hard to find without gps. Can imagine how pretty it would be if it had just rained because there are several water falls along the trek.

Lovely route, would recommend starting early as there is limited shade near the top.

Nice views on a clear day. Choice of 2 different routes. Blue or red. Red is about 16km and takes you to summit and back. Blue is about 8km. I've added photo of map and routes..
