Clare Glens Loop Walk is a 2.2 mile loop trail located near Newport, County Tipperary, Ireland that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips.
This easy forest walk journeys past waterfalls, rock pools and rapids, and presents stunning photographic opportunities. The Clare Glens is a wooded area along the banks of the Clare River, which separates counties Limerick and Tipperary. The scenery is breathtaking, with wild dense forest combined with the calm rushing of the crystal clear waters. The Glens consist of a picturesque red sandstone gorge through which the Clare River flows and displays numerous waterfalls. This loop walk is part of the network of National Looped Walks and are marked using the standard National Looped Walk directional arrows.
Bring sturdy walking boots, waterproofs, rucksack, fluid, and snacks.
Start from the village of Murroe (Moroe) on the R506 between Limerick City and Cappamore. Follow the signs for Clare Glens which take you north out of the village. Follow this road for approximately 5km to reach the trailhead at a car parking area on your left. Both loops start and finish here. Note: the trailhead is signposted from Murroe.
I’d say there should be a sign at the halfway point. Some people got lost at there.
A gorgeous walk. Well worth staying close to the river route for the first half mile or so. A lovely place to sit and have your lunch. As for conditions, there’s a few downed trees and and it’s muddy in places..overall though, a lovely walk altogether.
Great walk and very muddy if you're starting the loop from the left side and turn right to finish.. Lovely waterfalls along the way but more enjoyable if you are prepped to really go near the start or the top of the big waterfall - but get ready to get muddy and with wet feet! Amazing!
Lovely trail, I personally tried to walk quite close to the river but if you do so be mindful cause it’s very slippery! If you follow the route, the trail is totally fine and safe. I found this trail very different than the Irish trails I’ve done so far, the atmosphere it’s absolutely stunning! 100% recommended.
