Boyne Ramparts Heritage Walk is a 7.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Navan, County Meath, Ireland that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from April until September.
Stunning. Walked from Slane bridge , direction Navan. Most scenic walk we have experienced. Shame it is not maintained with full open access from about 5km with trail somewhat lost and trees collapsed into it. Irrespective, this added to the adventure of it all. beautiful weirs along the route. Also, would be terrific to open up the canal for water amenities..
Lovely river walk, lots of wildlife. It's a grave walk way and mostly level. A few muddy puddles here & there but nothing major. Ending in a wee park on the outskirts of Navan town was a little disappointing, a lot of rubbish everywhere. (Navan town Council take note)
Nice easy walk by the river, abundant wildlife. Great for birdwatching. We extended the trip into Navan, though that part wasn’t that scenic.
Pros: Paved walkway between the river Boyne and a canal, starting at a car park (about 40 spaces) in Navan near the old mill and running all the way to Slane. Ideal for running during daylight. I walk my dog here but be careful of them near the water as the banks are steep in places. Cons: there has been a few "unsociable" people along this trail as it starts and finishes beside towns, but mostly at the entrances or near by and later in the evenings.
