Getting There

This is a long trail from Baravore/Glenmalure Hostel which consists of forestry trail and navigating through bog. It is initially easy going along the river but beyond can get tricky if visibility is bad, and can be waterlogged year-round on high ground. Trails are often not obvious. If you are bringing a Dog keep it leashed as Sheep roam the hills. Care is required on uneven ground on descent from Cloghernagh.

1. This trail requires good footwear and clothing. 2. Parts of the trail are muddy and wet. 3. Weather up here can change quickly, prepare for low visibility. 4. Map/Compass essential. 5. Camenabologue Mountain straddles the Glen of Imaal artillary range, obey all sign posts.

The starting point for this hike can be either from the Baravore Car Park or from just beyond the Glenmalure Hostel.

Great trail. Really beautiful views, lakes, waterfalls, rivers... Hard-going and very wet ground in parts (even in August). Path is not obvious in many parts, so following the trail on the app was essential. Make sure you download the maps before arriving at the trail as there is no phone signal in Glenmalure Valley at the start of the hike. (There is phone signal as you climb towards Table Mountain, and for most of the trail from there). Absolutely NOT dog friendly: farmers sign on Lugnaquilla says "Operational Sheep Farm - Dogs will be shot dead - no exceptions". And anyway, would be very difficult terrain for majority of dogs. The decent from Cloghernagh to Art's Lake and from Art's Lake to the river (Fraughan Rock Stream) takes about an hour in total and requires care throughout as it's very uneven with deep holes hidden in the undergrowth (hence 4 stars). Glenmalure Lodge nearby is strongly recommended for food/drink after the hike.
