Note: clockwise direction recommended, as there is a fairly steep scramble if you go anti-clockwise you will have go down instead of up, which can make the hike a lot more difficult.

Definitely wouldn't recommend for beginners, especially if you have a fear of heights as there are parts you have to climb. Would recommend going clockwise as it would be dangerous the other way round. Trails can be confusing and would of been better if the weather was good. All round a brilliant experience with beautiful views. Took about 5 hours including detouring to the lake and having a swim, along with a lot of rest breaks.

unreal best hike ive done but there is a scramble that you need to have some upper body strength to climb up. other than that its easy, the views are amazing.

DIFFICULT. Somewhere adults would like to bring their kids but would not recommend for kids under13 (unless going straight to the lake)! Alot of families not doing propper research! Steep and dangerous, tough on the legs (even for an experienced person) Whole loop took alittle over 4 hours. Breath taking views, well worth it but hiking boots essential, med kit and slow release energy snacks!! Go slow, be careful & enjoy!!

It looks incredible but this isn't a hike that I'd reccomend for novices. It's a Fantastic but challenging hike. I've done this hike twice now and can easily say it's one of my favourite hikes in Ireland. I would recommend doing this on a bright, clear day as when the fog comes in it can be very daunting and intense. This is especially the case during the parts you have to scramble. I love this hike but wouldn't attempt it in wet conditions. Good footwear/boots are essential. It took us 3hrs to complete the loop.

This is a fantastic trail but not for the faint hearted! We made the mistake of ascending anti-clockwise, BIG MISTAKE! It made the descent terrifying. Would advise anyone who wants to do this wear suitable hiking footwear and go up the clockwise route.

Brilliant hike. Just be warned, go clockwise, we went anticlockwise, big mistake, (as a number of locals we passed had no problem reminding us of ) there is a fairly steep scramble which we had not realised and had to go down instead of up which made the hike a lot more difficult. Keep clockwise and you should be fine. Amazing views from the lake and the summit alike. Even though we went the "wrong way" I think it made the hike a lot more enjoyable and challenging, as we weren't "going along with the crowd". Hiking boots essential and a med kit advised just incase there's trouble on the scramble.

Amazing hike! Good level of fitness required. My 2 nephews (10 & 14) did it with me. One point on ascent was very rocky and difficult to navigate but once past that it was fine. We went clockwise. Hiking boots a must.

One of the best hikes in Ireland. Views are amazing and the walk is challenging but so worth it. I've done it like five times and my partner twice that.

Unfortunately the weather was not on our side the day we climbed, the conditions were very bad with high winds, rain and very limited visibility! (would not recommend in these conditions ) Although the climb still went great and we injured ourselves, path can be hard to spot at certain time so take care when ascending! The lake is great for a dip before/after but be warned it is icy cold!

Very impressive hike for little time..went yesterday and weather played a blinder. Amazing views over the green fields while ascending and the corrie is the icing on the cake to keep you travelling around the horseshoe and nice spot to take a dip on the way down. Keep on adventuring

Great trail with spectacular views of the lake and the Comeragh Mountains. The views of the farmlands are awesome. Hard at some points when you’ll need to climb rocks to get to the top, after which it becomes flat for 1 or 2 km. We had lovely weather with a small shower while on top, but gave us the most amazing rainbow over the Corrie. Recommended to bring proper footwear, I climbed it with trainers and was tricky and slippery at some points.

Ascended from the left of the lake. Very cloudy and wet slippery mud near the top. Good views but winds were dangerous. Might be easier from the right..
