Rosenallis Glenbarrow Red Trail is a 6 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Meelick, County Laois, Ireland that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and nature trips.
This fantastic circular walk travels through the lush green forest and along the banks of the Barrow. You'll pass by the Clamp Hole Waterfall in the first mile. The paths are well-maintained, making this a great trip for the whole family.
Lovely walk through the forest alongside the river. A small vantage point at the waterfall then a gradual climb up out of the forest for a walk in the open before entering the forest again. Great views. Wear walking boots as it is wet/muddy in parts.
Great trail, signage is slightly different to the mapped trail here but still very easy to follow, make sure you have your boots!
Local to home so very familiar with this, it’s doable for all moderately fit people. First of many in the Slieve Blooms.
A very enjoyable hike. It has several routes so make sure you know which one you want to complete. The blue route is a nice child friendly route that passes by a lovely stream/waterfall before looping back. However the other routes that continue on are more challenging and boots are recommended because it gets wet underfoot. The track on that way down gets a little overgrown.
Not young kid friendly, first time hiking for us, granted we didn't know we were going hiking, we thought this was a waterfall walk. My wife and I enjoyed the fact it was something different, but with a 7 year old and 3 year old it felt dangerous at times. Took 3 hours to complete the blue (easy) trail.
Really nice trail no matter what route you take. close by so have done it a number times. The views cam be really nice on clear days and the paths are really well kept.
