Getting There

A scenic loop outside of Oughterard with nice views of Lough Seecon. There are two loops in this area. One reaches further out for a view of Lough Seecon. The smaller loop cuts off a mile of hiking by cutting around before the lake. Easy hike for nice views.

When coming into Oughterard from Galway, go over the small bridge on the church side of town. Instead of going along the river, continue along the road as you turn right off the bridge. This road is the High Road. Further down High Road on your left, you will see a turnoff and sign for the New Village Forest Walks. For a nice additional three mile hike, walk the Townee Wood Walk (on High Road) until you get to the trailhead for the New Village Forest Walks. The Townee Wood Walk offers lovely panoramic views of Lough Corrib.

really nice place. really enjoyed it.had my dog Seven with me he really enjoyed it too got a little confused near the end as you come off the track from the woods onto a little one lane paved public road so you just follow the road back down to the entrance again anyways I figured out haha. amazing views of Lough Corrib when you get to the paved road! stunning views actually

A nice view of the lake and a good short, easy hike in the gateway to Connemara. To get to the trailhead, I recommend taking the Townee Wood Walk.
