Challenging hike, bring gas masks, we hired a guide which made this trip safer and no other guides bothered us with their services. A lot of men work here mining sulfur, which is the reason there is strong smell of it. Need gas masks at the top. We started at 5am, experienced sunrise which was magical. Saw blue flames too. The road is mainly uphill and gravel only. Wear good shoes.

I took a tour because the transportation was much more expensive than taking a tour. But once arrived, I did the path that I wanted. It is not very difficult but better to come prepared. It is better to have a mask because of the sulfur in the air. Also if it is windy in order that your eyes don't burn, bring a protective glasses. You can rent them as well.

A quite unique payoff after a reasonably steep but short climb. The way up is smooth if not a little dusty. The descent into the crater yields the sight and smell of burning sulfur and the blue flame of that. Below is the world’s largest acid lake. Gas mask is essential if you want to get close. It will be a little colder than you expect so would not do this in a t shirt. Best done at night to see the flames best and then ascend to the rim and watch a glorious sunrise.

Start of trail is very steep though it's paved mostly to the top, then a bit of scramble going down the crater. You will come across lots of miners along the trail.
