A stroll through Menteng in search of some of Jakarta's best parks Jakarta isn't known for its parks, but Menteng is one of the grassiest, greenest areas in the city. Located in the center of town, the neighborhood is home to Jakarta's most elaborate architecture, embodied in the multistory houses that line the streets. Prominent politicians and diplomats are known to inhabit these residences, and even former President Suharto, who in his day was the longest serving dictator in the world, lived here. U.S. President Barack Obama did too, when he was a child in Jakarta.
