Seljalandsfoss is located in the South Region in Iceland right by Route 1 and the road that leads to Þórsmörk Road 249. The waterfall is one of the most popular waterfalls and natural wonders in Iceland. The waterfall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull. One of the interesting things about this waterfall is that visitors can walk behind it into a small cave.

Even in the off season this path was pretty crowded - tour bus after tour bus. It's a super easy walk and it's pretty, so I get it. Bring your rain gear. If you are going to Gljufrabui, be prepared to walk through water (don't go back there without waterproof boots and full rain gear).

This is not much of a hike, but the waterfalls are beautiful. Be advised it is crowded

Yeah... not really a trail but I’m a waterfall hound so this was like... hog heaven for me. We went during the day and it was ridiculously crowded but, since we went in July, we were able to go back at midnight and still see them all by the light of day... but with no other peoples!!! It was pretty much the best day ever. Just be mindful of the campers if you do a midnight visit.

Definitely crowded. But a very easy hike. Wear waterproof clothes as the wind really blows the mist out. Also if you go behind the falls in the cave you can garuntee getting wet. The hidden falls in the cave was probably our favorite. You do have to hike thru a shallow creek tho so make sure you have waterproof shoes. You will definitely get wet on this one.

Nature trips

Easy peasy. 3 stars as this is a boring trek itself but the views are obviously well worth it. Gljufrafoss is a bit tricky as its pretty slick and crossing over water on stones. Hard to tell for oncoming traffic.

Incredible to hike behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall and then hike ~500 m into a grotto/mini canyon containing the nearby Gljufrabui waterfall.

Beautiful extremely easy walk. AND BRING YOUR WATERPROOFS!!! The falls are breathtaking but large and the trail runs close to them. Would definitely recommend to everyone regardless of skill or comfort level.

HikingGreat!

Seljalandsfoss is an amazing waterfall that you can walk all the way behind it and out the other side with a beautiful view from the back side, and Gljufrafoss is another waterfall that's located in a narrow canyon, both you will get a wet from the amount of mist coming from them

Bring waterproof gear! Both are amazing but Gljufrafoss is really something special and less people seemed to take the walk down that way.

Beautiful waterfall that is just an easy walk. Behind waterfall closed due to ice. I would have rated higher but a lot of people and many totally disregarded the closed signs and walking in areas that were closed. So sad because these kind of people ruin it for others without even caring.

beautiful waterfall and super easy loop. very touristy, so best chances are probably going super early in the morning to avoid buses.

Incredible waterfall and such a cool experience to be able to walk behind it. After you leave continue down the path to the right (away from parking) to a small, even more impressive hidden waterfall! You have to walk through a small cave to get to it. It was my favorite waterfall in Iceland.

Very fun experience to go behind this big waterfall. But even better... hike down the path to Gljufrafoss! You have to step on some stones over a small creek into a cave to get to these hidden falls but it’s worth it. Loved visiting both falls.

As others have mentioned, you must pay for parking and display the ticket in your window. After paying, there is a short walk for a good view of the falls The mist from the falls will get you wet, especially if you go behind the falls. I HIGHLY recommend taking the short walk to the other waterfall and a gorge. There is a high waterfall in the gorge but it was crowded. I recommend waiting and going into the Gljúfrabúi gorge. It takes about 15-20 seconds to get into the gorge; however, the stream will get your feet wet.
