we had an awesome time hiking this trail. i would recommend on a day that it’s completely clear. we had no troubles on the way until we were about a half a mile from the top & it started pouring causing the trail to be like a waterfall. we ended up having to turn around :( but there are views the whole way up and it is absolutely beautiful. would do this hike again for sure

Awesome hike! Get there early if you want a pass. Sad that on most days, locals can’t even hike here anymore because tourists take all the passes. Less crowded recently due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Scrub your shoes and boots at the start of the trail to protect our native plants and watersheds. Definitely go on a clear day because if it’s cloudy, you won’t see anything at the trail end. On clear days you can see all the way out in both directions, Diamond Head behind you and Chinaman’s Hat and Lanikai in front of you.

Great trail, definitely go when it hasn’t just rained as it’s super steep and would be really slippery!! Sick views all the way up. Definitely try to get there before 7:30 am on the weekends if you plan on doing a morning hike. They have limited passes and run through them quickly on weekend mornings!

Wonderful Hike, enjoyed the scenery along the way and enthralled with the view from the top. I'd rate this hike more difficult the moderate. The stairs are difficult unless you have longer legs. Lots of wonderful people encouraging one another on this hike. Rewarding to finish the hike! Take a lot of water, some snacks, use your sunscreen and some kind of head covering. Much of this trail is not shaded. There was a wonderfully cool breeze at the top!

WalkingGreat!

Amazing trail!!! I would consider it hard because of length and height of the mountain trail. I’m 5”2’ with short legs and long torso so the stairs and other areas seemed more of a climb. People are so friendly and encouraging. Made it to the top in 3 hours with frequent stops for rest and enjoy the views of the ocean and mountains. The top was plain miraculous! 360 view of the ocean.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Awesome hike with my dog. Great views. Elevation gain is at the start and end of the hike. Most of the elevation gain being the end of the hike when the stairs start. The steps are pretty steep and are about half the hike. Some steps are pretty tall, so definitely more work for shorter folks and made for agile dogs! Very muddy and slippery in some areas, so might be nice to have trekking poles for the way down. Shaded at the beginning and sun after the stairs. Very humid with lots of fog this morning. No visibility at the top but nonetheless great views along the way. Took my australian cattle dog and I about 2.25 hours with stops for me to give her water along the way. Definitely bring plenty of water for your dog! Lots of fruit flies at the top.
