The trailhead is in a gated community, Waialae Iki. There is a guard house where the guard will write down your license plate number and give you a parking pass. There are a limited number of passes. This trail starts out on paved road eventually turns into a dirt track.

Great views. Recommend spikes and trekking poles if you have them. An added measure of security. Go past the summit to the next summit for a nice short Ridgeline jungle trek.

Beautiful way, on which you can not get lost. In some places it has ropes that provide support. These places are good to master without it being dangerous. It is a pity that everywhere the electricity pylons are to be seen. That's why 4 stars. + - the walk took three hours in a leisurely pace.

This is a great trail that takes you to the top of one of the higher peaks in Honolulu. It's pretty strenuous near the end as there are a lot of stairs. If it's muddy, it'll be even harder. Thankfully, they've put some ropes to help you ascend/descend on some parts. To get to the trailhead, you have to drive all the way to the top of this hilly, multi-million dollar community until you reach a gated security area, which leads you into an area with even more expensive homes. You'll get a parking pass and then drive even further up the road until you hit the trail head. There's minimal parking so I suggest you go early morning. The first mile and a half or so (I never really counted) is fire road. Then you hit some mostly uphill tracks. Very doable stuff with plenty of cover. When you reach the point where you can actually see the summit, that's where it gets difficult. Lots of makeshift stairs with a steep incline. Be careful when ascending and descending (especially when muddy). After all, it is a ridge. Just take your time; no need to rush, folks. If you're afraid of heights, this might not be for you. Or you can try it, just don't look down. At the end, you'll be rewarded with stunning vistas of the southeastern part of the island. Very breathtaking. Depending on your level of hiking, I would say this is a very doable hike, probably moderate to difficult. Just make sure you bring lots of water and shoes with traction. It's well worth it.

This trail is amazing. It’s steep and has a lot of stairs but the view at the top is breathtaking. This is probably my favorite hike i’ve done so far on Oahu and can be done in tennis shoes which is nice.

Trail is easy to follow but defiantly buries the lead. The first mile or so is easy walking up an incline. Once you get to the ridge that changes. It’s wet/clay mud and lots and lots of steps. Ropes in a few places to help. Awesome views. Took about an hour and a half to get to the top. I recommend doing this in the morning and in the afternoon the clouds roll in and block half the views

Beautiful ridge hike. First mile is boring. Once you hit the stairs, it's a gorgeous hike. Water, water, water, sunscreen, snacks recommended! Oh & hiking shoes of course!

Hike difficulty is Medium, not Hard. Overall it is a pretty easy hike for an experienced hiker. Good hike for all levels. Just make sure that you have enough water and day time to get out of this trail before the sunset.

Wow this hike was amazing. We went on a bright clear day but luckily most of the trail was either covered with trees for shade or had a nice breeze when not covered in shade. The first part of the hike before the stairs is quick and easy with a slight incline most of the way. The stairs and the steep ascent gets difficult and a bit scary at some points. It hasn’t rained for over a week so we didn’t have any problems with mud but some of the dirt trail was easy to lose your grip on so be careful whether it’s wet or dry. Definitely bring some water with you. If you make it to the very top the view is unbelievable.

Early arrival got coveted spot...moderate to heavy stairs and rock action...muddy, yet fun! Met several on trail not ready for this hike...right shoes and attitude needed. No view on top unfortunately...next time!

Beautiful views the entire way and a nice hike overall. This is a wet trail and the mud in places is very slippery, trail shoes are recommended. Loved this hike and would do again.

Solid trail, lots of runners this morning but only up to the first set of stairs. After that crampons are advised as it's really muddy. Rain was off and on, but still fun. Missed out on the high, 2460 ft view because of the clouds. Overall would go again.

Excellent early morning hike. Arrived at 6:30 am and we were the first car in the lot. Some steep areas with good trail maintenance of steps. Some muddy places. We were treated to a helicopter setting down linemen and equipment right on the ridge. He made several trips. Cloud on the summit but many other views were easy to see and were stunning. Love this hike.

It was raining so we didn’t complete the trail but made it about 80% and it was great! I will definitely do it again next time in Oahu.

This trail will be closed May 6-30. This hike is a hidden gem! "Hidden" in that I think this hike is far superior to other hikes on most top 10 lists. The trailhead is an easy drive from Honolulu and a [cheerful] guard will give you directions to the parking area. The hike offers terrific views, especially near the end when you get a panoramic view of both sides of the island.

Awesome hike!!! Made it to almost the top, I'm terrified of heights so I couldnt past the top where you need to use the rope. (top of stairs). But it has amazing views!! It was pretty dry but I'm sure if wet it would be very slippery.

Amazing views all throughout this hike but especially at the top where there are 360 views of the island. Per the guard, the trail will be closed May 6-31 for utility work.

I loved every minute of it. It is a hard terrain when it rains as it gets very slippery. The views are amazing and you will get an amazing workout. Sometimes it gets foggy at the top. Go on a dry day. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a good workout.
