Waves pound into the layered shoreline known as the China Wall and high surf causes tremors in the ground. Jumping off the shore is not recommended. High cliffs above the Spitting Cave are dangerous. An extremely scenic spot. The area known as the China Wall and Spitting Cave is located east of Honolulu on Oaha and has been used many times for filming TV shows like LOST, The Event and Off the Map. The area is a geological masterpiece with multiple slick rock layers caused by surf erosion. The China Wall access from Koko Kai Beach Park allows access to a shelf where waves slide past with great force - watch out for rogue waves on this lower side of the China Wall. The Spitting Cave is east of Koko Kai and accessed via a short path near the end of Hanapepe Place. It is located just below a high cliff where waves crash underneath and shoot into the cave which ejects the water like a reverse blowhole. You get a great view from the rock head to the west of the high cliff. Very cool! Be careful, the cliffs are dangerous. Just past the cave are ladders where the "Others" frequented during many LOST seasons. This short jaunt gives you a great taste of raw Hawaii and the power of its surf.

Spitting Caves is about 10 mins away from Koko Head, so for anyone in a time crunch and wants to bunch a few scenic points in a few hours, don’t forget this stop. Access to this point is through Lumahai St., where street parking is available and where the trail can be found between houses. Within a few steps, you get a magnificent view of the clear blue water and if your fortunate enough to see it actively “spit” water, you’ll understand the appeal to this point. On a side noted for those with mobility issues, please note that the trail is relatively steep and narrow. Just want to give a heads up to avoid disappointment.

Parking is strange as you are basically in a neighborhood with multimillion dollar homes everywhere and near the end of the street on the right side you will see a sign that looks totally out of place designating the short trail leading down to the spitting caves. The trail itself is brief but steep! Be careful as it can be slick after a rain! Once out on the rocks/cliff side, the views of the bay and Diamond Head are absolutely beautiful! Great for photography, sunrises, and sunsets! There is also an area where you can cliff jump off to the right of the entrance but do so at your risk. People have died here doing this. A slip on the rocks or drowning in the surf below are both real dangers. The waves crashing below are awesome to watch! Beautiful scenery!

Easy and great watching and photos. Worth the short trip and drive.

short walk down to rocks where you can feel the acoustics of a partially submerged cave... sit in the right place and you can watch it spit. parking is a little awkward. there will probably be other people there but not many. chill little spot. oh and the walk down can be quite slippery.

ショートなトレイルですが、雨模様であったため下りの岩場が滑りやすくサンダルでは危険でした。

Very beautiful, but very dangerous! The sandstone is smooth and there is gravel that you can slip on and possibly fall. Great for photography!

Not really a Hike, but oh my god, the view is spectacular!!!!

Well worth the trek! A couple of things to note, the path is between two houses about 3 houses away from the end of the street. It's mostly dirt so it looks like water runoff but about 400 feet down the slope you make it to the cliffside. If you are a bit of a daredevil, there is a spot the locals like to jump off of into the waves below. it is marked on the rocks with an, "X" and an Arrowhead. I visited during High Tide and NO ONE was jumping during that.

Definitely not a trail and hard to find. It’s in a neighborhood and the small path is in between a couple houses. This is a MUST DO. The view is phenomenal. My favorite so far.

The view at the end is spectacular. Parts of this very steep (albeit very short) trail were too steep for some in our group. Absolutely beautiful view at the end for those who were more able!
