Pu'u Ohia (Mount Tantalus) is a 0.9 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Easy trail but muddy due to rains. A lot of off shoot trails from this one that I’m not sure where they go. Once you hit the paved road, Take the one going up. At the end take the trail (only one) toward diamond head to get to the top. Not much a view due to overgrown bushes and trees. View of Honolulu was better at one of the pull offs on the way up.
Great trail. Safe enough for kids they will enjoy the mud. The view at the top is nice especially the view of the other mountains. Overgrown brush blocks some view but still worth it. Stick to the map on AllTrails because there is a trail that continues further into the mountain that you may accidentally take. Just remember to take the trails that lead to higher elevation.
Great. Except last half mile was on road! Beautiful bamboo and forest. Hilltop views Less than ideal.
The trail was very muddy today. My husband and I took our German Shepherd and two kids (3&4) and do not really recommend kids under 6. The trail is very narrow and steep edges. My 3 year old slipped off the side and I had to jump down it and catch him and stop him rolling down. Other than that, it was fun!
The trail was a little muddy at spots. Overall it is well maintained and there are options to hike other routes.
Short trail with nice views. Tennis shoes or sports sandals will work. Looks like mud can be an issue on this trail, but it was dry during our hike. Complete with my 5 years old and 2 year old with only some assistance. Check out my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9YN4NGe3ds
Great hike. A little muddy at times but I wore old running shoes and was just fine. Some parts towards the end are overgrown but again, nothing too bad. I wore shorts and made it through fine. A lot of cool views and the sounds are awesome first thing in the morning!
