Pupukea Summit Trail is a 10.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Haleiwa, Oahu, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
A long hike but most of it is on a road.
The turn off the road up the ridge trail is easy to miss. Follow on gps. After that, it’s pretty overgrown. Long sleeves and pants are a must.
Great workout as always! Signal sucked and couldn’t find trail continuation again. Next time though! Burned plenary of calories as always.
Lovely started with summit. You sure gonna need long sleeves not just pants. Only go if you know why and if you have enough patience. Road is awesome and goes forever. Loop is beautiful. This hike isnt for those who looking for views though.
Solid trail (although it can be quite muddy)—the back side is primarily dirt road/paved which makes for less clambering. There’s a few water crossings and plenty of good views looking out to Haleiwa. Be sure to lock your car as I’ve heard some stories of break ins unfortunately.
It would have been a great trail if the over grown vegetation was maintained. It was very difficult for me to go forward, and I only made it to 1st summit. Good ocean view of North shore and west side mountain ridge :)
Wear pants not shorts because you will tear up your legs. The trail starts out on a gravel road then turns to pavement. The trailhead is on the right side you will know you are there because there is a bunch of yellow caution tape hanging off the trees. A pretty good hike it was pretty cloudy this day so the views were not very good . Oh and it’s not 10.3 miles out and back it’s only 9.0 miles.
Trail Splits off the road to the summits at a big pile of dirt to the left. It’s hard to see. Watch the map where you are. There is a lot of yellow tape up. Path when it splits off to either summit is very overgrown and hard to through. Only made it to the top of the first summit. Nice views.
This was a secluded trail that starts at a Boy Scout camp past a rural neighborhood. Parking is along the road and the trail is not super well marked. You follow a dirt road to an abandoned paved road that leads to the trailhead which is well marked. The trail is exotic and muddy. The trail portion ends at what feels like forest fire access road and then trails back down to the abandoned road again which is washed out in places and suffering from rock slides. It feels like a set for Walking Dead - Hawaii. We passed one other person and had a great time. Exotic and slightly creepy.
Great trail. Didn’t get to the summit cause the path was severely overgrown and flooded. The lookout was beautiful. Next time. Still a great hike.
Wasn’t planning on renting for the summit today and sadly that will have to wait for another day. Would have completed but thunder echoing off neighboring ridges spooked me a bit. Especially since the trail branches off the main road and is muddy, narrow to begin with. Will be doing this again soon!!! Great run with pretty views
Beautiful trail. there are a lot of markers, but unfortunately the biggest one was left out. There was a part of the trail that was detoured and so we had to go on a rocky road following a map with poor gps signal. Other than that, beautifully overgrown in many different landscapes. forest, tropical, over streams, over bridges. I brought 1L of water for 2 people which was empty at the end.
