WalkingGreat!No shade

Relaxing secluded beach walk (on a weekday) where you can see turtles. The shore is a bit rocky at times, and though there places to get your feet wet, it’s hard (but not impossible) to fully dip in the water because the waves come in from a steep slant (meaning crashing waves if you get in). Still, a relaxing and beautiful walk.

I must confess...I didn’t finish the trail because I wanted to swim and watch the turtles. It’s a very nice, quiet stretch of beach with so many turtles swimming at the edge of the water.

One of my favorite beach walks. Quite the workout if you walk the whole thing on the sand

Agree with earlier posts, a beach walk--not a "hike", don't know where the 100+ elevation comes from. But mostly sand so good workout, with occasional flat volcanic shelf to walk on, depending on tide. Lots of turtles in and out of the water, small tidal pools and BRIGHT white sand, wear sunglasses and bring water. Opportunity to swim at small beaches at both ends of the hike and park with showers by the Haleiwa-side parking. I'll bring visiting family here. Note there is shade all along (trees) but you have to pass private property signs to go under them.

More of a walk along the beach than a trail. Really pretty views and a ton of sea turtles. Watched many in the tide and ran across 5 on the beach. We didn’t go all the way but only had half mile to go but decided to head back.

More of a beach walk than what I typically think of as a “hike” but it’s a gorgeous route, and can be a good workout walking in the sand. We saw five sea turtles napping — such a gorgeous sight! Be sure not to touch or disturb them if you spot any. :)

Great trail for sand and sun. Saw a sea turtle come up out of the surf which was awesome!

Not much of a hike, and more of a beach walk. Still a great place to chill in the shade and set up a hammock above the water. Sea turtles like to skim the coast here and are easy to spot in the morning and late evenings. I’ve also seen a few seals toward the end of the trail. Homeless people have set up camp throughout the wood line here, but they don’t mess with anyone.

Perfect beach walk/hike. We got there about 10am and walked slowly along the coast looking at the turtles in the water. Had the beach to ourselves basically the whole time. Passed a couple of homeless tent setups in the vegetation but no one bothered us. Highly recommend!

The beach has a lot of rocky pools with tons of life (ie Blennies, crabs). We saw 6-8 turtles swimming right off the beach. The hike provided beautiful views of the Bay as well.

Bring your tennis shoes! It can get rocky and difficult to walk through the sand. It's along the water and there's no shade along the short hike, but once you get to the end, just jump in the water and it was all worth it!

You can get to Police Beach, the primary set for LOST, from either Puaena Point at the end of Haleiwa Beach Park or from the public beach access on Papailoa Road. Drive past Haleiwa on (Hwy 83) and take the first left on Papailoa Rd. Drive until you see a public beach access on the right (access 269A) and the dirt parking area on the left. Take the access and go left down on the beach. The backshore of this area is private property - many signs tell people to keep out, so please be respectful of the beach and surrounding area. Per Hawaii laws, private property begins right at the natural vegetation line. Stay on the beach and don't venture inland. This is a great spot to watch sea turtles, and we saw several this day. The two types of sea turtles most frequently observed are the green sea turtle, listed as a threatened species; and hawksbill sea turtle, listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act. Feeding or touching turtles in any way is considered a disturbance and illegal. The DLNR advises to keep a 6- to 10-foot buffer as a best practice. Do not touch, pick up, restrain, jump over, straddle, pursue, ride, harass, harm, or otherwise disturb the animals, noting that federal and state consequences apply. We’ve been to this beach many times and always enjoy sitting under Sawyer’s tree. Enjoy!
