A moderate to difficult hike, and an interesting climb up and down 3 peaks rather than all up going and all down coming back. Half of the hike is narrow track through 3 foot high brush so the suggestion to wear pants is a good one. Take plenty of water and some food, and depending on your phone battery a portable charger as well. Be aware of possible weather changes and do not attempt this hike if it is very windy.

I loved this trail! Definitely wear long pants haha. We weren’t expecting to do this particular trail today, so I was wearing knee-length shorts and I got pretty scratched up. Also bring plenty of water! The view at the top is gorgeous- definitely worth the climb. It feels kind of long, but it’s less strenuous than shorter hikes like Middle Manoa Ridge that go straight up but have a similar pay-off in terms of reward. Will definitely do again! Perfect way to spend the day.

Really nice trail, with a moderate grade pretty consistent all the way up. Concur with other reviews on needing pants, we didn’t have em and wished so most of the way. Btw, if anyone comes across a pair of Oakley sunglasses please send me a DM. Thanks!

awesome view, one of the best by far. however, trail is extremely narrow which makes it impossible to run so you have to take your time. wear pants as the shrubs are overgrown and WILL scratch your legs.

Beautiful hike. At about mile 1.75 the mud begins as well as the overgrown uluhe ferns. I would recommend pants if you are going to summit.

Great hike! Best in honolulu. Definitely wear pants or you will be pain like I’m now

Lanipo hike offers incredible views after 10 minutes of hiking and then continues to impress you as you hike up the ridge line. Highly recommend wearing pants as the shrubs are mildly overgrown in some parts and bring lots of water. I rate this as moderate high as there were areas that needed rope assists, steep uphill climbs and hugging the edge of the mountain. it wasn’t too windy or muddy when I went and was easy to follow the trail. Incredible hike!

Oh boy. This was a tough trail. I am a 45-year-old male who weighs about 245 pounds. I was crawling at a couple points. All that said it’s a great trail with great views. Pants are a good idea.

Beautiful hike if the weather cooperates. Be sure you are fit to do this one as it can be intense. Don’t forget extra water. Hawaii climate has a way of depleting your energy quickly! Enjoy your hike but turn around if you feel unsure. ***On a different note, please DO NOT park in the Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation parking lots. This is private property. If you park here, you’re being incredibly disrespectful to the residents and their families and your vehicle will be reported for towing. Mahalo for your kokua.***

It was windy and muddy. Not ideal conditions. The trail features rough, single-track steps of red clay that are somewhat treacherous when wet. Good shoes with traction are a must for this hike. The assist ropes in certain sections worked well and supported our weight with ease (roughly 200 lbs with pack). When we reached the top, we were able to catch snatches of amazing views through the press of clouds. Taxing but would definitely do again.
