This trail begins in a residential area. Please be mindful of residents, be quiet, and park legally. There are no bathrooms or other facilities at the trailhead. Please use the restroom before you come and pack out all trash. The rainforest in this area sees a lot of visitors, so it is important to minimize your impact in every way you can. A nice hike through the jungle to great view of Kailua, Maunawilli Falls, and a swimming hole. Maunawili Trail contours the base of the Koolau Mountain Range on the windward side. It begins off the Pali Highway and ends in Waimanalo. It offers spectacular views of the windward side of Oahu, Olomana, and the Koolaupoko watershed. Vegetation along the trail includes mountain apple, rose apple, ti, naupaka, mamake, lobelia, koa and ohia. Maunawili Trail is a good family trail. There are three access points for this trail. The Maunawilli Falls Trail is a great hike in Kailua along the river that eventually stops at a beautiful waterfall with a great swimming hole below. Many people like to jump from the waterfall into the pool below, and some with a bit more courage even climb higher to the side of the waterfall to jump further (try at your own risk). The trail is often muddy, especially after rains, and you will cross the river several times along the trail. About half way through the hike you will break out of the trees for some nice views of the surrounding mountains and views towards Kailua in the distance.

It was raining when I was hiking, so was very wet, foggy, muddy and slippery. Watch out for branches falling. Huge branch barely missed me, fell right next to me. Be prepared to get your shoes wet. Waterfall itself is very beautiful. Also, people are assholes and lots of trash seen on the trail. Pick up after yourself!!!!!

Recording is of the falls trail and to the waterslide. Take the trail to the left of the pool at the falls We got lost and ended up on the other side of the mountain, in the Research Center property...lol. We went back and found the right path. Waterslide is soooooo much fun!

It was easy until u started to ascend the stairs about a mile in. I carried my 7 month old daughter which made the hike more challenging trying not to slip. There’s a lot of roots u have to step over which were slippery and some muddy inclines as well. Also the fall was really crowded. But ppl were jumping about 50ft into the water which was cool to see. Not much room to sit around the falls so we took our pics and turned around. If I did it again it would be at the same slow pace to avoid slipping

This hike is so awesome! It is very muddy and you have to walk through the river at some points to get there, so wear good shoes! Also you can cliff jump, so wear swim suits too! Overall highly recommend this beautiful hike.

Crowded, very muddy. Recommend this hike after a good dry spell. Bring water shoes for a 100 yard trek up the stream to the waterfall. Three spots to jump for 10, 25, and 40 foot entries.

I just did this hike and it was amazing! Crossing the water was fun! But when we got to the water fall I saw a bridge on the hill! Does anyone know how to get up there? I saw people up there! Thank you

I’ve did this hike a few times. It’s a very muddy but scenic hike. The waterfall is too populated to enjoy though.

Fun and fairly easy. A bit slippery on the tree roots. Do not recommend going on a weekend day as the pool at the falls was packed with people.

Such a fun hike! it's a bit slippery and you may need to walk in the water. but we got to the waterfall, swam and jumped off the cliff, so worth the muddy trail!
