$5 donation at visitor center, grabbing a paper map, and exploring all the off trails! Although most trails are not cleared completely, there are markers tied to trees to help you find your way. You can see some awe inspiring mountain views and foliage as well as wild pigs, mongoose, hear cuckatoo pterodactyl screeches, and hooting owls. Go with someone if you are not comfortable navigating forests as you could get off trail/injure an ankle if not careful.

Beautiful gardens. We went all the way to the waterfall but unfortunately it was dry when we went.

This arboretum was incredible. We visited this arboretum in Mid -May. Highly recommend this trail as it was well manicured most of the way- a little tricky navigating up to the falls. Inspiration lookout was beautiful. The scents changed frequently and were incredible, ranging from wet jungle to fragrant foliage and flowers. The trails were well marked and traversed some of the most incredible plant collections I have seen. Well worth the visit and not too crowded . Very easy trail to navigate if you stay on the main trail. Highly recommend-you will feel as if you were in the jungle.

Highly suggest making the donation ($5 min) at visitor center, grabbing a paper map, and exploring all the off trails! But a beautiful day hiking dry trails in and out of the sun with hardly any traffic. Heaven.

Very well-maintained and absolutely gorgeous! Despite what they say, there’s plenty of parking. Don’t park in the Manoa falls parking lot below which charges five dollars. Continue driving up the trail to the Arboretum and there you’ll find their private parking lot.

Beautiful scenic walk. Not challenging, and you can decide how long you want to spend. We didn’t have a lot of time, we did this our last day, so I would love to go back and do a more full loop.

This place is beautiful! The foliage is mature and full. There are many footpaths off the main trail that loop around and come back. The waterfall at the end is not as big as the one at Manoa Falls, but we enjoyed hiking here so much more because there was a lot more variety, a lot of birds, and a lot less traffic than Manoa Falls. On a dry day or one w a light mist you could do the main trail and all the side footpaths. On a wet day or a day after a big rain, the main trail up to the waterfall would still be amazing, but some of the side paths would be slippery. We suggest wearing sneakers or hiking boots. The main trail is basically large gravel and rocks and you can feel every rock through thin soles. This was our favorite hike all week and we would come back again, likely with a small picnic to eat at one of the lookouts.

Leisurely way to spend the afternoon after visiting Manoa Falls.

Fairly easy / kid friendly hike around the arboretum. Plenty of beautiful plants and birds to check out.

I’m happy we took the time to go up to the Lyon Arboretum Trail. The flowers and the foliage were stunning. The hike was very easy but was intensely hot and humid. Make sure to bring water. The waterfall at the end was a bit of a disappointment as it was quite small. I think it would be great for families. Multiple small hikes available in the same area.

Nice arboretum, the staff were kind. The path does have a few ongoing maintenance issues so no 5 Star.

Great hike and not that long of a hike! Free parking only ask for donations. Map is easy to follow get in at the visitor center. There is a main trail and then off the main trail are other smaller paths to follow. I would definitely try some of the smaller paths and then go back on the main. Not as crowded as other falls. Waterfall is beautiful so happy to try this trail out.

Amazing views from the parking lot and a true Jurassic Park like experience. Very large uneven pavers though through some parts of the trail. True hiking boots a good idea to do it all.

Beautiful area and hike. As others have said it isn't a hard hike and it is wonderfully well kept. We weren't expecting to have to sign in so that caught us by surprise. It also isn't pet friendly which is something to note. Still the surroundings are gorgeous and there are lots of plants to look at. Definitely recommend it!

Beautiful plant life and peaceful area with themed gardens e.g. Hawaiian native and ethnobotanical, Bromeliad, Palms, and Economic sections. Bring bug repellent and wear sturdy shoes. Park in the lot and sign in at the visitor center (give a suggested $5 donation). The attendant will give you a map of the grounds. The main trail is very easy - a wide ~1.5mi rock and/or grass path to a small waterfall. There are plenty of smaller side trails to explore, which are narrower, a little steeper, and muddier in places - keep an eye on the markers which might come in handy if you get turned around. Saw two of the feral cockatoos and 9 other local species of birds.

Even though the falls are not spectacular the beauty of the place and the tranquility surpasses the small falls.

Great place to visit! Easy walk in the rainforest through beautiful flora. I brought my mom with me once, and she loved it. I used to hike up to the waterfall in the morning before class for some yoga by the falls. Fantastic start to my days. The people there are great, and if you're looking for a worthwhile place to volunteer, this is it! I'd still wear shoes I wouldn't mind getting muddy, but I didn't break a sweat on this one. If you enjoy plants like I do, it's definitely worth the time. Plus, it's not as busy as Manoa Falls!

What a way to escape city life by taking a couple of hours and spend it in the only rain forest on Oahu. The Arboretum is very clean and well kept with lots of flora. Mosquitoes will eat you up, so bring repellant. Rain is always a probility, so if you don't want to get wet, bring a jacket or you can just duck under the protection of a Banyan tree. There are several trails in the area, but they a usually muddy and not kept as well as the park area.
