The locals say that you're suppose to run to the top, come back down to the picnic table, and then run back to the top again.

No facilities, please be prepared for hiking in this area.

HikingGreat!

This trail is 6mi total. Past the picnic tables it is very steep, so if you are not a seasoned hiker take it slow. Bring more water than you would on a flat hike. You don't want to run out, trust me. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE 'SHORTCUTS' ON THE SWITCHBACKS!!! THIS EXPEDITES TRAIL EROSION!!

HikingMuddy

This is my second "moderate" hike and it was pretty difficult. We went up today around 7:30AM and were one of, I think, 5 groups we saw throughout our 2ish hours hiking. It started to downpour as we got to the top and the rain made for a very slippery and very muddy hike down!

Hiking

When I first did this hike two years ago, it was rated “hard” on all trails. I think it should be rated hard again. This is double the elevation gain and double the length of Koko Crater (which is rated hard), and is somehow only rated “moderate” which is the same as Manoa Falls (the easiest hike on the island). Anyway, I did this hike today at 2pm and cut through some of the switchbacks to expedite the trail. Maybe 10 other groups on the trail today. Not too windy at the top for once, but definitely some misty cloud cover. This is a good hike to do by yourself as it’s minimal risk, but yeah, it’s always a toughie endurance-wise. The stairs at the end always get ya. Just remember there are about 5 sets of stairs. Great workout. I’d budget 2-4 hours for this, and expect to burn 700+ calories. No ropes.

A mostly shaded trail with pine forest and a up burst of stairs will bring you to a beautiful view of Hawaii Kai.

HikingGreat!

even with rainfall the night before, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed waking up at the crack of dawn and chasing the sunrise at the top of the ridge. nothing beats the smell of the pine and mist of the morning dew. truly a MUST-DO on Oahu! Do not know why it took me three years to getting around to do this hike. 10/10 would do again and go further down the ridge. Stopped at the first peak right after the end of the stairs

Always love doing this hike. I would rate this as moderate. Lots of stairs at the end, but worth the views! Park on the street near trail head but be mindful of neighbors- it’s in a residential area. I am always respectful and save my conversation for the trailhead.

Hot today, I should have checked the weather before going at 1pm. It is usually Oiler and the heat was tough on the pup. That being said, the trail was in near perfect condition.

HikingBugsGreat!

This was a great trail and very much kid and animal friendly. The trail is ‘not very technical’ and the only thing that makes it difficult is the steep incline stairs during the last .3 miles. There were multiple kids under 10 years old, several dogs, people carrying young babies, and even others running to the top for exercise…don’t let the running fool you, it’s still a beast of an incline. Clearly these guys were in shape. Please bring water for your dogs. I saw about 15 dogs on the trail and one couple did not have water for their dog when they reached the top…wtf? The other dogs were drinking water at the top as if their life depended on it. This trail does NOT have waterfalls, creeks, streams, or rivers. This is a very fatiguing hike and you will be tired (and for some, in pain) when you reach the top. The trail took us about 1.5 hours to the top. The trail is mostly shaded with a nice breeze as you gain altitude. There are a few areas where it is difficult to pick up the trail but it doesn’t take long to figure out that you are on the wrong path. The top provides a breathtaking 270 degree view of Oahu plus multiple great views as you are hiking. This trail is well worth the ending, you will not be disappointed!

Great trail! Mostly shaded with a nice breeze. Love the pine trees, the 4 sets of narrow stairs were challenging but take time to catch your breath, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views at the summit!
