Kuaokala Access Road is a 16.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Waialua, Oahu, Hawaii that features a great forest setting and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, mountain biking, and ohv/off road driving and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Probably one of the better hikes on Oahu, although the trail is a dirt road used by four-wheelers. It's a good mix of sunny and shady stretches, with great views along both sides of the island (including all the way to Haleiwa). Based on the map, I thought this trail would be a grueling up and downhill battle, but it's a pleasant, yet challenging terrain. Bring water and maybe some bug spray (there were lots of fruit flies and a few mosquito spots). We did stop and turn-around before the climb up to Peacock Flats.
