Up or down- no fun. Lots of roots and it’s either all up or all down depending on the direction. Buggy forwards the bottom.

confirmed still closed 7/25/19 but if you end up on the trail anyway, it is doable. There's pink trail markers that show you where to go to bypass the landslide. Not muddy like Manoa falls, but definitely slippery is some places.

the trail was closed (4th feb 2019) but we still went anyways. it was all fine until the last part where there had been a landslide and large trees had been blown over. it was very muddy and slippery so we fell over and got mud everywhere but it was really fun, no view though because we couldn’t climb the trees all the way

TRAIL HAS BEEN RESTORED AFTER THE LANDSlide. I did this trail on 9/17 and there is a safe bypass around the landslide. I was able to go all the way to Mt. Olympus.

A landslide that was triggered after heavy rains recently (related to Hurricane Lane) has taken out the trail. The section involved is about 50 yards or so before you get to the short switchback that put you on the ridge section of the hike. I have taken photos of the landslide and the parts of the trail and they are available for viewing.

WARNING: I am giving this a one star review only because a recent landslide has taken out a portion of the trail, and it is not safe to hike until it has been repaired. We did a full loop from the Pu’u Pia Trial up the Waiakeakua falls and ridge, across the Moana Contour, down the Wa’ahila trial to the Kolowalu and back to our car at the entrance to the Pu’u Pia. It was a very challenging hike, especially the Waiakeakua Ridge, which is completely overgrown and unmaintained. Much to our dismay, on our way down the Kolowalu, we came across the landslide. If you look about halfway down the trail it jogs to the right and back to the left after a few hundred yards. The landslide took out the left turn and a portion of the trail heading back down. We stayed to the left of the debris and traversed down about 50-100yds of muddy, loose terrain before finally spotting the trail again to our right just past the stopping point of the debris. I would not recommend planning this; we only did it out of necessity since it was our only option.

This trail is not Hard, but Moderate. It's a great workout if you keep a quick and steady pace; Steep climb up to fork but it's just one mile to the top so you can get up there quickly, in less than 30 min. I did this one on my own and went about 3.5 miles into Wa'ahila. It feels jungly and is shaded the whole time until you get up to the ridge, which is a plus for someone who tries to avoid sun. Not good to do after heavy rains as the rocks/boulders will probably be super slick.

Great trail for cardio workout. Nice day so headed up towards Olympus. Boulder looks ready to roll down about 1/2 way up Kolowalu. Bring water and micro spikes. No mosquitos today.

We hiked this on our way to Mt Olympus today. We were delighted to see a tiny Poison Dart Frog along the trail.

It was very rocky and very steep. The ground was dry so I didn't have any trouble, but if there was rain it would be extremely slippery. The top of the trail almost required climbing, so I turned around. I went on a Saturday and didn't see a person the whole time!

By far one of my favorite trails! Amazing workout and a constant incline! Doesn't take to long and is usually not crowded. Nice view of Manoa. Can be muddy so watch the weather!

Steep finger ridge trail that took us about 4 hours there and back, with a 30 min break. Once you reach the top where it meets Waihila ridge, take a left and hike for 2-3 minutes and you get a great panorama of all of Manoa Valley and the Waikiki skyline. This truly completes the hike on a clear sunny day.
