Not for the everyday hiker. The term trail is a generous term. Half the time it’s scrambling over rocks. I would make sure you are in good shape, an experienced hiker, and have good shoes before attempting this “hike.”

Not for the faint of heart. Went with roommates that were not in shape and they turned around 30mins into the hike. A lot of rock climbing, bring plenty of water and something to cover up as there is hardly any shade

Know what you're getting yourself into... My boyfriend and I are both athletic and came prepared with water and hiking boots. We only made it to 1000 feet, at about the first peak of the mountain. On the way up, it was all uphill and climbing over rocks. We had to take multiple breaks to catch our breath and for water. Once at 1000 feet, the trail seemingly disappeared. We found that it went way off to the left, but got very dangerous being over the edge of a cliff without places to hold on. We decided it wasn't worth it and turned back. The way back was difficult finding proper foot placement and not slipping on the steep, sandy sections. It took us about 3 hours and 15 minutes to get up to 1000 feet and back. Definitely a fun challenge, not sure if we'd do it again.

If you continue high up on this ridge then beware there is lots of loose rocks. (especially once you hit 3000 ft elevation / 3 miles in) I nearly died when a boulder broke away sending my falling 20 ft down ridge. I suffered multiple gashes on my head and hurt back. Do NOT assume rock is a solid hold just because it is big. So much brittle loose volcanic rocks in Waianea mountains, especially if you journey high up to less traveled sections of trails. Use extreme caution if you see rocks starting to crumble then likely are like other rocks nearby that will breakaway.

Distance wise the hike isn't that long but the incline from the beginning is steep! The trail going up is pretty obvious but theres a lot of rocks and big boulders to climb up or around so you have to figure out your own route at times. Be prepared to use your hands to lift yourself up on some of these steep cliffs and boulders. A few tips to consider: wear pants or leggings as there are a lot of twigs, weeds and sharp edges that cut my legs up. Also, wear a hat and bring tons of water as there is absolutely no coverage (except the occasional cloud).

Great hike for those who want a rock climbing adventure! I recommend to park at the Long Drugs that is further up from Maiuu Street and walk to the trail. Start early as it gets hot real quick. Bring lots of water and do wear sunscreen. The sun is no joke!

I really enjoyed this trail but it was way harder than I was expecting. Definitely not moderate. I made it half way before turning around because it was outside of my abilities. It was almost a full scramble and looked like it would only get harder. I'm not a climber (albiet quite fit) and thought to myself "I don't feel like falling off a cliff today".

Difficult to find trail. Very overgrown, didn’t get very far because I couldn’t figure out how to get around a huge rock. Maybe I was just in the wrong spot but I think the trail is just to overgrown. Still got a beautiful view even with not climbing very far.

Took an hour to rock scramble up the mountain. The rest of the way was less strenuous but for a couple of climbs. The view was amazing. The climb down was much more precarious than I expected. Take lots of water and start early. Thank you to whoever left red flags and markers along the trail. Very helpful. Especially for the climb down.
