Getting There

The trail is great for hiking or trail running and normally takes around an hour. This trail is probably the lesser used Na Ala Hele trails, and with lots of shade, it's a good one to do any time, any season. One option is to park at the beach park. There is no real room to park at the entrance without trashing someone's lawn. Plus it gives you a place to rinse off afterwards. Bring bug spray. We recommend hiking the loop in a clockwise manner.

Tell someone where you're going. Hike or run with a buddy. Bring water; while the jungle segments remain moist, the nearest water is back at the beach. Park at Hau'ula Beach Park, Hauula, HI 96717. Don't leave valuables in your car; the signs are there for a reason.

We had a lot of fun on this trail we didn't expect the significancant change of vegetations which was really nice. It is an easy hike which is perfect for kids and fur babies. We started clockwise as suggested, there were lots of mosquitos at the beginning of the trail due to stagnant water in the area. Trail starts right before you reach the graffities on the wall. The pave road leads to a dead end.

Great trail overall; slippery in some areas, two ways to hike the loop, well marked, beautiful view from the top peak (a bit overgrown), and light traffic on the trail. Parking is limited in residential area, but not unreasonable. Great for dogs as well.

highly recommend this if you get there early. we arrived at 8am on a Sunday and had the trail to ourselves (it was also a day after a holiday). we didn't see anyone else hiking until we had finished and were walking back to the car (hence the 5 star, would probably be 4 star if there were a ton of people). Park at the beach as the residential street has none. we went clockwise per the suggestion and would also suggest it. I listed as muddy, but it was only slightly in a couple places. we didn't really have any bug problems, we heard them at the two points where you cross a rocky trickle of water with still pools, but nothing too crazy but we did wear bug spray. this was a great hike for our dog, wide enough trail so even if you cross paths with others there is plenty of space for the dog to run around them. great change in trees and plants as you dip up and down and up and down in elevation. it is short, but very humid, bring plenty of water. total length was just shy of 4 miles if you park at the beach. will do again.

Hiking

Easy hike even for beginners. You get a few good views from the top overlooking the valley too. Park at Hauula Beach Park so you don’t block any houses in the neighborhood on your way to the trail. Would avoid if it’s just rained as it can get quite muddy.

Hiking

Good for a trail run or light workout. A lot of the views were obstructed by trees.

Parked at the beach park and then walked up to the trailhead. We went clockwise. Overall a nice trail! A few views throughout and lots of different trees. Not muddy at all and had lots of shade. Only saw one other couple on the trail.

I'm interested in doing 7 falls, laie falls, as well as haiku stairs. dbgoodfella on IG or bdan870 on snap if interested. I'm here for a few more weeks. Looking for people to hike with before I head home.

Lovely trail! I did the hike with my 12 pound dachshund and he loved it. Shady almost the whole way. Only views were at the very top. Easy, enjoyable!

This is a great trail for kids, dogs and everyone else. We did it clockwise which allowed us to enjoy the views and pine forest at the end. My 4 year old (experienced) hiked the entire thing plus the additional park I added of going to the topographical top of the hill. Total was 4.4. Tons of shade, different environments and beautiful artwork to see after the hike up the paved path. Loved this hike and it’s ease.

Wonderful trail for dogs! Shade nearly everywhere and a couple of flowing-water pools along the way. Only passed a couple of families along the way (very family-friendly hike!). The northwest portion of the hike has the coolest and tallest trees with a few solid views of the town and the ocean!

Great trail- fully shaded with incredible views. There are small streams but not a huge waterfall. This is an incredible trail to bring the family on! Dog friendly!

A great trail for casual walking or trail running. Nice views but only in a couple of spots. Saw whales from one of the view spots. Muddy in places, easy to fall if you in a few spots if trail running.

This is definitely more of an easy-ish nature walk than a hike. Slight elevation change. Park down the main road by the beach. Walk to the entrance. When you start on the trail, you'll come to the entrance where the loop starts. We went "left" (or straight) and you'll be greeted with switchbacks which makes going up easier and going down the other way much shorter and easier. It was dry when we went with some muddy areas. There's two parts where you'll cross a "stream" but it's very much a trickle right now and a tiny baby waterfall. The view at the top is ok - small areas to get photos. There's an area if you go off trail that's a big hill where you'll get a nice view of the ocean. Just be a little careful on the clay mud and muddy/slippery parts. There's lots of shade but can get humid. Bring bug spray! It's a little longer than we expected (expect 4 miles to/from the car or so). It's a pretty easy hike and definitely considered family-friendly.

Nice scenic jaunt with mild elevation gains for the area. Muddy patches throughout the trail, but worth the hike. Would recommend only after a dry week. Parking is about 1/6 mile from the entrance on the nearest side street

Took the family on the hike. Was very muddy and slippery in places. The waterfall is underwhelming. The view from the ridge line was beautiful! Very diverse vegetation on the trail. My girls felt at times like they were in a fairy fiorest. We were very muddy at the end. Each of us slipped and landed in the mud. Took us 2.5 hours helping my 7 year old daughter along the way . Got some pretty pics though .

Decent trail....not super easy, but not overly hard, on the lower end of moderate I’d say. Was a little muddy, but with proper shoes isn’t bad at all. Took about 2 hours to do the loop....we did it clockwise. Parked down by the beach park, makes for a quick walk to the trail.

Absolutely gorgeous views, not sure where other people are going from this trailhead if they're saying otherwise. There's only mud on a little of the trail, I suggest starting counter clockwise to avoid steeper spots with exposed roots that would be more difficult to traverse than a bit of mud. perfect hike.
