This site is open to the public although it is on privately owned land, therefore, please stay on the trail. This trail is also called the Hanauma Bay Rim Trail. This trail is located to the west of Hanauma Bay. Koko Head is often mistaken for Koko Crater. This one is on the makai (ocean) side of the state and national parks and is not the tuff cone with the railway line. This lesser known trail starts at the Hanauma Bay bus stop with a road that leads up the hill towards the ocean. Note that this is not a public area, so visit at your own risk. This trail has no cover so bring lots of sun screen. It is also normally very windy. The main attractions are the four leaf clover bloom in the spring and a sea cliff rock bridge that is located just past Pai'olu'olu Point.

DONT GO!!! We attempted to do this trail today but two different groups of people caught us before we started and told us they got fined! There are cops standing on the trail handing out citations, one group said their fine is $5000!!!

Hiked this half a dozen times now. The view never gets old. The water looks amazingly bright blue and green in the midday sun, but be warned, this is a hot dry hike, especially midday. Bring more water than you think you’ll need for a hike this short.

It is government property but never had a problem. It’s a paved road unless you go down into the crater. Their are 2 places to go down the first is steep and loose gravel but a little shorter. The 2nd path down is not smooth it’s like huge pot holes. I’ve seen trucks down there. Anyways if you are looking for the stone bridge look to the far Ridge you will see bushes, the easiest way I found was stay to the left of the far left bush and it’s like pot holes. Keep going and you can’t see it but then what I call a black rock formation will come into view make your way there and the bridge is to the far right. Some people stand on it but wouldn’t recommend it because you will be turning your back to the waves witch are unpredictable.

Paved hike to the top with breathtaking views of Hanauma Bay on the left and Hawaii Kai on the the right. Makes for an easy out and back hike. For a more moderate hike take any of the dirt/rock trails for a loop hike.

Awesome trail. Amazing views. Would've been even better if the cops weren't called on us. We got a warning because it was our first warning, he looked up our info. If we get caught again citation or jail.

Beautiful views! The breeze made it bearable without shade. We followed the asphalt road until the last tower, then turned left down the rock face. The map brought us to a gorge that we were literally rock climbing through vines... don’t go this way. Instead, before the tower on the asphalt there will be a dirt trail to go down— take that and it will still loop around.

Great trail, awesome views, but NO shade whatsoever. My older dog overheats easily so I can’t take her with me, but I still love this hike. You can get off the path and explore along the cliffs. Awesome views and harder than it looks. Some of the vertical, especially on the far south side are steep. IG: @pieandthesky

Love this trail! As many have said, the trail dead ends about halfway around the loop (after you walk down the sea cliff). Still worth going down there. Saw some sea turtles! I just double backed and went through the blue dotted part on the map. Maybe you could cut through somehow, but I looked for 15 minutes and it was heavily covered in either brush or a drop off and I didn’t have the right gear for it. At the end of the loop, you get some great views of the bay that you can not get anywhere else.

Trail was great but the loop on the right side runs into a dead end. Maybe if you are into scaling cliffs you can complete it to hike the other mountain top. We had to turn around at the bottom and climb the steep hill back. Pretty cool view at the end and not as treacherous as it looks from above. We saw four sea turtles swimming in a cove.

Easy to hike. Perfect view and can see other island on a clear.

Nice moderately difficult trail but do not go to the second cell tower. You can go along the ridge but it dead ends. Instead turn left past the first cell tower about 100 yards and take that down to the point. The hike back up is challenging but great! It overlooks the beach and cove!

Great mid-level trail for those wanting more than the lighthouse hike but not ready for the ridge lines. The view of the bay is so iconic and beautiful and the geological aspects of this hike are probably the single best on the island in terms of diversity and beauty. The beginning is all pavement, maybe 30-40%, then downhill, be careful, slippery, and then fairly fly and easy. Make it to the rock bridge at the oceans edge and just look around, amazing. There is also a large large sundial at the top most people (me) miss the first time around. Enjoy! :)

Great views. Multiple trail offshoots. There are paved portions leading to the trail & some service road areas that are easier. The All Trails trail does not line up with an actual trail in several areas, particularly across a major gulch. Use good judgement & take well trodden paths. Best to do when the trail is definitely dry. There are steep inclines/declines with loose dirt/rocks. We got to see several whales, turtles, and manta rays. If you park at Hanauma Bay remember the parking lot closes at 6pm.
