Diamond Head Crater Tour is a 4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking and running and is accessible year-round.
A popular, family-friendly, paved walking or biking trail around the park with wonderful views of Honolulu. This path does not enter the state park. Accessibility: There is one designated accessible space in the paved parking lot off of Diamond Head Road at the east end of the trail. It is van-accessible with a striped access aisle. The trail surface is paved with mostly concrete (with railings near steep drop-offs), and typically at least 5 feet wide. The most accessible portion of the trail is the first 0.5 miles, or from the 1.8 through 2.8-mile mark when heading clockwise. The estimated grade is moderately steep (8% or less) except for very steep (over 12%) uphill and downhill sections between about 0.6 through 1.7 and 2.9 through 3.9 miles when going clockwise. Trail goers using wheelchairs/mobility equipment or strollers may need assistance along this entire route due to the consistent sections above a 5% grade (especially if using manual equipment). There are benches and picnic tables along the route for resting
There are bathrooms and water fountains throughout the park.
My friend lives about a mile from Diamond Head and I have hiked it twice. On this trip I wanted to do something different. I rented a bike from the Biki Bike stand and took the bike around Diamond Head. It was a great bike hill. There’s a little incline but what goes up must come down so there’s a little down hill as well
Walk round Leahi without entering the park starting/finishing at Outrigger Canoe Club. Grab a coffee at Ars Café!
nice walk. its fairly shaded for about half thr walk. nice views steady incline. we parked at the waikiki shell and walked from there. next time we will pack a backpack south swim suits to swim at diamond head
Beautiful for watching sunrise at southern point and for the surf watching!
Flat with a lot sidewalk and road shoulder but a lot to see including parks, exercise equipment, historic homes, mansions, ocean cliffs and surfers, restaurants and shops, Ft Derussy, and I walked up to the tunnel into the crater and back out before hitting the park pay station.
This is not the hike to climb Diamond Head, it is a public road that goes around Diamond Head. I did this in the early evening and it was a pleasant enough 4 mile walk around Diamond Head. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to do this trail, but if you are in the area it is decent exercise with some interesting things to view along the way.
Great with kids. Better to go early or sunset otherwise it’s too hot.
This gives a really wonderful view of Honolulu. Did this with my family (parents are not in super great shape) and we all did it and had a great time. You could easily make this into a run if you chose to do so, as we saw a few people doing that along the way. Great temperatures as always. For a lot of the trail, you will be exposed to the sun with very little cover so be sure to bring sunscreen.
This is a road route that can be driven. With that being said I love to walk and enjoyed it very much! Water, sunscreen and a cooling towel did the trick.
All the reviews seem to be about the Diamond Head Trail, not the All Trails trail for this hike, which is a flat walk AROUND the crater on the outside. The hike was more of a hitch-hike than an actual hike, you are on the side of the road pretty much the whole time. You get close to the lighthouse which is cool, but I’d recommend just driving around rather than “hiking” it. It was also super hot after about 5 minutes. I wouldn’t do this hike again.
