This trail is very steep, and can be dangerous when wet. Please be respectful and do not leave trash. Do not park along Trout Farm Road, as your car could get towed. Instead, park at Swanzy Beach Park.

Aloha! Cool hike. Make sure to wear proper hiking/solid footwear. Microspikes can be handy for parts of the trail. Gets more precarious the higher up you go towards the ridge summit. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram @mike.karas or my email mikekarasphotography@gmail.com for info or other questions. I’ve done most of the hikes on the island before. Also please pack out your trash! Too many litterbugs on the island sadly. Mahalo!

Nice and short, while still getting some beautiful views. Definitely a fun quick one that I would come back to! Park across the street from the trailhead.

Highly recommend it!! If there is no rain and light wind, it is incredible! Lots of steep hills coming down, so don’t recommend if there’s rain. One of the most beautiful hikes we’ve done!

Stand: Nov. 2019

be safe, please. DRY SUNNY DAYS ONLY Especially if you continue upwards... it’s a lot of sheer drop offs and high winds. The Crouching Lion is quick and easy but with several sheer cliffs alongside the trail with winds and loose dirt/gravel. I continued straight up to two more lookout peaks/points and the views are worth it. Got the adrenaline going for me. For reference (if you keep hiking up) it’s a bit Easier climb yet significantly more dangerous drops than going to Peak one of Olamana

Hike to the Lion is relatively short but pretty steep. The view of Kahana Bay is worth it. I recommend if you are not pressed for time following the trail up towards the top of Pu’u Mana’mana (no need go all the way) That will give you an even better view of the east side and Kahana Valley. Either way it’s rewarding. Just be careful of the ledges. Several people have fallen to their deaths here.

Just got off, only person on the trail. Barely missed sunrise but the views and morning light were phenomenal. Always a good, quick one that gets the heart pumping

Great trail, short but works the calf hard on the way up! Up in about 18 mins. Coming down can be slow if you get stuck behind slow people but up and down in around an hour including 15 mins at the top. Awesome views!

Slippery! Definitely need hiking shoes or shoes with decent grip. Be sure to use rope and roots.

Parking: There is ample parking on the right side of Kam. Hwy across the start of the trail (if you’re coming from town side). It’s dirt and yes there’s room for big trucks. No animals, no small kids, no elderly. Start of trail: There are 2 signs that say “area closed” and another that says “dangerous cliff” (there has been deaths on this hike). It is an illegal hike. Do not start your hike where these sign are next to the speed limit 35 sign unless you want a vertical climb with ropes. I was told this was a back way. There’s identical signs a little ways up. Those signs have flowers and stuff left for the hikers who passed. This way is much easier, but still spots that slip from the dirt path. It took us about an hour with taking pictures. We went in the heat of the day and the sun radiates from the rocks, bring water. Be safe!

All vertical gravel trail upwards! Hard to find the start of the trail. You’ll see the two signs, walk in between it, and then keep left, walk over these big trees and then you’ll see a dirt path. The dirt path will be flat and then suddenly becomes gravel and upwards climbing. Be sure to wear shoes with good grip!

A pretty quick trail once you get to it! Park on the side of the road and walk over- there are 2 entrances. The left is “easier”. Both are rocky, I did this in my tevas and was fine. There are bees on this trial and multiple places/opportunities to climb higher and for different views
