View was nice, but also nice from the road. Hot trail with no shade. Good exercise. Two hour round trip at a fast pace.

Hiking

Views were lovely, but much of it is the same with little reprieve from the sun. There is no cover at all. Started early in the day, around 7am and found the temperatures mild. Would recommend an early start to avoid the heat. If you hike up the first kilometre, kilometre and a half, you'll have a lovely view of the sunrise. The trail is mostly incline and steady all the way, though I'd say it's more moderate than difficult. Pace yourself and bring plenty of water. Hiking boots with ankle support and hiking poles were very beneficial on this trail.

Walking

For newbs, it's definitely a hard-Stairmaster-trail. For an experienced hiker, it's mildly amusing at best. Read on one of the reviews to wear trail shoes (which I did) and I wish I just used my regular rubber-soled grippy shoes (wasn't that hard for me ). I finished the trail in 2 hrs & 30 mins considering I took a lot of stops for photos, videos and I was texting along the way. I solo-hiked this and loved it as I felt safe and it was an easy meditation hike for me. Started the trail at 6:30am because I wanted to avoid all the people and wanted to see the sunrise. Be warned tho, the trail offers no shade (unless you consider dead trees as shade) so I suggest an early start. I loved the views of Hale'akala in the end including those massive turbines (did a slow motion vid with those gigantic beasts, incase you're looking for vid ideas).

HikingGreat!

Wowza this is a hard one. Make sure you wear hiking boots as the terrain is rather unforgiving. It helps if you start the hike early. To get back down before it gets too hot.

Hiking

First hike on Maui. Trail was easy to follow, lots of cool volcanic rock. An amazing sunrise on the way up. Only giving 4 cause the end of the trail was disappointing as you end up on a flat open area around the windmills.

Enjoyed this hike. My first in Hawaii. Lots of rock stairs. Windy, sunny, and hot but gorgeous views. Great place to watch for whales. Bring binoculars.

Hiking

Go early. No shade and full exposure so getting there at sunrise is key. Such a beautiful way to see the light come up. Epic views and interesting volcanic rock

Great views. Brown Red blue color scenery. Turbines in the end. Good for watching sunsets if you are okay with night hiking. We managed pretty well with phone lights

Hiking

It was extremely windy (makes sense, given the wind turbines), but it felt a bit unsafe at times. The views at the top were not that impressive. If your goal is a challenging hike you will enjoy this. If your goal is gorgeous views, you only need to the first half mile, and the rest of the hike is not worth it.

Hiking

Great workout. Try starting the hike earlier in the day otherwise the heat would be the biggest challenge and not the hike itself. The heat in my case made me grateful for the bits of cloud cover that I’d get occasionally. Carry 2-3 liters of water per person.

Great hike if you’re looking for a challenge. Start early in the morning to beat the heat and blazing sun. Bring lots of water!

Great views! Pretty strenuous, and hot. We didn’t complete the trail, just too hot for us. Worth trying.

We did the west trailhead to center walk and back. As a 65 year old man with some health issues I found it accessible and really enjoyable. Great views. My partner is a fit 60 year old woman. The steep parts require rock climbing which is slow and easy. The grade otherwise is moderate with many flat areas. Going down was challenging on the knees but not too difficult. I found the app sent me through Google to the wrong place. The west end starts between mile 11 and 11.3 on the 30 near or just past the tunnel depending on your direction with parking in a treed area across from the ocean. Highly recommended.
