This trail was awesome. Definitely challenging for the distance but not overly difficult. The views were absolutely amazing!

Amazing view and pretty easy hike compared to the other out and back elevation gains in Kaua’i. HOWEVER! Here note. There are a two sleeping giant trails. We took this one which is the sleeping giant east. As you are doing the trail, there is an arrow in the rock. It seems deceiving at first, but that is the correct way to go. It’s the hardest of the climb. There are other climbs you can do, but not mandatory to get the views from the top. Also, psa, take bug spray, and hike with appropriate shoes (NOT FLIP FLOPS).

Great trail but very slick, slippery, and definitely muddy. View is worth the clean up when all said and done. Highly recommend.

excellent hike with a great 360 view at the top. I missed the cave trail, which apparently is very close to the summit. I was told its worth checking out though. Next time..

Very cool little hike! Bring plenty of water...the hike up through the jungle is very humid and will drain you fast if you’re not prepared. The trail was in great condition for us today. There are definitely places where it could be very treacherous when wet. Make sure you take the little side hike to a small cave and arch. It’s off to your right when heading down at the top of the last scramble. Dress for hot/humid conditions and enjoy! Beautiful views at the top!

This is a nice hike. Went early and had no trouble getting a spot....it’s limited parking and you’re in a residential neighborhood. It starts through a pine forest which feels like you’re walking through a Buddhist retreat. The top of the hike is fun. There’s a little bit of climbing and a great view at the top. When you get to the peak the trail continues a bit trail and you’ll be rewarded with what seems like.a manicured garden and a lovely view. This trail doesn’t pack the same punch as those in the North but it’s a nice little walk if you’re staying on this side of the island. I wouldn’t drive distance to do this hike.

Pretty cool hike. There were enough muddy spots and rocks to keep the hike interesting. In the middle there is a small rock wall (7 ft) that we needed to climb. We were able to do it with a baby carrier on our back. We hiked in the shade for most of it. Nice but not much to look at while hiking up. We couldn’t make it to the top; baby got heavy and I was dripping sweat.

The view from the top is completely worth the mud. We did this trail after several dry hot days and there was still stretches where it was a slog to get through. But the view of the island from the summit made it all worthwhile. There is a bit of a climb at the end.

This was a really fun hike! Beautiful views and if you are just visiting this won’t take too much of your day. Make sure when you get to the picnic table to keep going past it, to get to the top. Also when you get to top there are 2 more trails up there; one leads to a cool little cave and the other leads even further up. Beware it’s really muddy and slippery after rain.

Fantastic trail. Rained yesterday, so the trail was pretty muddy. We arrive about 9:15am and finished about 12:15. Took it pretty slow because of the slip factor. Saw several hikers that had lots of mud on their rears. You don’t want to be on this trail in the rain - too risky for a slip injury. We love it. Glad we did it. The scramble to the summit is a lot of fun.

Great hike! Good for any level (with more breaks for slower hikers, but don’t let it dissuade you!). Gorgeous hike with spectacular 360’ views when you reach the top. Great variety of flora and trail surfaces (eg, flat path, stair stepping up the pine roots, rocky path, bouldering) throughout the hike, which kept it interesting. Mostly shaded. Well marked trailhead and markers along the trail. A must do! We’d do it again for sure!

One of the best views of the island. You get a great view of the mountains in the distance as well as the ocean. The trail is steep for a lot of the way up but mostly pretty shaded. It was already getting hot when we did it at 7:30AM and the parking lot full, so I would definitely go early. Also, while this says that the trail is 1.6 miles, the west side trail on its own is 1.6 miles and meets with the east side trial before continuing to the top, so it will be a little longer (maybe a mile or so) round trip. Overall this was one of my favorite hikes ever. At the end you get to do a little bit of rock climbing and if you go around a pathway left of the nose it leads to a little cave hole. 10/10 would recommend this hike.

Really fun hike with a bit of climbing at the top. Very well marked and well shaded. Great views up top with a cave

Hiked it a few years ago. Modest inclines most of the time, with a couple steeper scrambles. There's a nice resting spot about halfway up, where you could picnic if you wanted, but not much of a view from that spot. The rock face of the giant offers some nice views, though the area is somewhat small and doesn't allow for many people at same time. Recommended as a day hike, low-to-medium difficulty.

The hike up just before the rock scramble has some really interesting tree alleys. The top offers up some great 360 views of the valley and ocean. The trail was completely dry when I did this hike but could see how it could be dicey at the top when wet.

This trail is amazing. The views are next level breath taking at the very top, plus how often do you get to say you scaled a “sleeping giant”? It was pretty humid and hot, even at 8:30am so get an early start to beat the heat and the crowded paths. I’d call this moderate to difficult as the scramble at the top is intense if your not a climber.

So far my favorite hike in Kauai. The footing is solid and the paths are wide. It was harder than I thought it would be. There is some rock climbing when you get to the top, but it very doable. There is also a resting spot on top. The view before the summit are awesome!

Only advice. If you hike up the west trail make sure to hike down the west trail... not the east trail. It doesn’t loop around
